I can address the second part of your question.Originally posted by CaimanQuestions:
First as it pertains to pistols...Not AR or AK or external mag types but mag in the handle/grip (normal type). I would think that the same rules apply if one wanted to bring in an off list pistol that meets the 10.5" oal rule. Make it single shot and you can DROS. I realize that 10.5" is pretty long for a pistol but for argument sake am I correct in that it can also apply/be done??
Second question which I may have missed in the multiple threads. Must the AR lower specifically be marked as "PISTOL"? Or can someone walk into a dealer who has lowers in stock and just have it DROSed ( after configuration) as a pistol? From what I've read a receiver is just a receiver until first Drosed.. .at least that's what I've seen on other forums, but I'm not sure on the AR type.
The AR pistol lowers are not required to be marked pistol. However it may help. My pistol is marked "pistol" and once when confronted by an L.E.O. while at the range, It helped to further dumbfound him and contradict his belief that it was an SBR and illegal.
A manufacturer must designate what the lowers intended purpose is, not a retailer at the time of DROS. And that about sums up part two for your question. Hope that helped.California Uber Alles, California Uber Alles

Yes.
You can make a pistol into a rifle, but can't make a rifle into a pistol without getting approval for a SBR.
Also, once you make your pistol into a rifle, it's now a rifle. Therefore, you can not make it back into a pistol without getting approval for a SBR.sigpic

OK so as I understand all of this the lower does NOT have to be marked pistol?
I am an 07, and do build pistol ARs for non CA residents from regualer stripped AR lowers. For my local, and Fed laws this is OK.
In order to ship this same item to CA I just have to install a BB and a bobsled?
Or do I also have to have the lower marked?
Does the lower list still apply to pistols? or can any lower be used, like a BM, Armalite, or DPMS?Shadow River Productions, LLC
