    Springfield XD problems?

What are the cons of a Springfield 4.0 xd? Is there any at all? Thanks!

Striker retaining pin was the weak point on the earlier models. They would break if dry fired a lot of times. New one are of stronger material now, but I still put this as a maintenance part if it's a HD weapon. Mine is from 2002, not broken, but I do not dry fire with the exception of a take down.

Striker channel gets dirty and clogged up will result in light primer or no ignition. Another good maintenance practice will be beneficial. Well, that's with any gun.

Semiwadcutter bullets are a no go (XDM are redesigned and will run them fine).

Long pre-travel/uptake (smooth though) on the trigger (can be removed with the PRP kit). One of the better break in striker fire.

Grip safety, I barely feel it though, but a con for some people.

High bore axis, for some people. Barrel to barrel to the Glock it's only a couple of mm higher, non issue to me with handgun rounds.

Weight, it is the heavier (much heavier in handgun world) of the G19/M&P equivalent. But the pro to that, is the recoil/flip is reduced compared, IMO.

All in all, I like mine .

My wife has a 4" XD9 and it has been flawless for 2 years now. She is very accurate with it, loves the ambi mag release (she's a lefty) and she can't shoot my Glocks very well.
I did hear about the striker retainer pins so I ordered a hardened set from Powder River - got 3 of them for like $12 just sitting in the range bag.
Overall it's a great pistol. I've started to see quite a few places have them in stock recently at decent prices.

Actually scw is all I shoot. Gone through at least 60k easily.

As for problems with the XD and as well as any gun, having enough ammo to shoot it is a major problem. Haha.

Fantastic firearm. Very comfortable to hold and shoot. I like the grip safety. You don't even notice it when gripping the gun. You don't have to think about making sure it's depressed, it will happen naturally as you grip it. Very reliable. I've fed a wide variety of 9mm and it has functioned flawlessly. Not one malfuction. Highly recommend.

I have 3. 9mm sub, 4in and a 4in 45.. Love them all.. I abuse the 45 regularly and never had any problems.. Bought it right when it came out. 9mm are soft shooting, recoil is very manageable for even small framed people.

I just shot one for the first time. it was a .45, service model i believe.

as an m&p owner, i was impressed by the ergos and it had a great trigger.

I really like the XD, in sc, service, tactical, and in 9, 40, and 45.
I have had problems with a light striker or not strike, resulting in no fire. I'll be looking at the striker pin area and the striker retainer pin tomorrow.

I've run almost all of them over the last 5 years or so; I am a fan boy but not many cons with their customer service being arguably the best in the industry.

My XD .40 service model runs all the hollow points I have tried to run through it. Some snagged at first, but the ramp just needed breaking in.

Being used to the glock trigger, when I first shot my XD45, I absolutely hated the trigger. Long take up, long reset. But after a PRP trigger swap, I have no complaints.

I bought an XD9 sub many years ago based on a sale price and free mags from Springfield. I had never shot one, only polymer gun in my safe was a HK USP. I have put thousands of rounds of ball and HP ammo through mine and it has never failed me. It is my most carried gun.
