The Shield has already been available for months and S&W is not withdrawing from the CA market. Rumors are great, aren't they?

    I'd get the XD in a heartbeat...but in 9mm!

Laws against murder and attempted murder should have been the only gun control laws ever needed in America...

          Nice review!!

Are either the XDS or Shield off the CA roster? I believe the XDS is?

For another perspective I wrote up a similar comparison recently. My conclusion is that I prefer the XD-S (9mm) slightly over the Shield, but either would be perfectly fine in a CCW role.

XDs is off roster (need to SSE if not exempt) and the Shield in GTG.

My guess is this version is not on the Roster and would need to be SSE'd. Could you confirm?

Based on other threads, it would seem we may be looking at probable issues putting SSE'd handguns on CCWs.
But the thing is that there IS a CA Shield on the roster and if you put "9mm M&P Shield" on your CCW list, do they care if it's a CA shield, a non-CA shield or a version without the safety?

From all the recent threads, it seems a couple IAs do care but most do not. Seems to be a growing concern among people for some reason, but it's still only a couple places where there have been any issues whatsoever.

Not a bad comparison, but don't you think a 9mm Shield would have been a little more relevant when compared to a 9mm XDs?

At the time of the article we did not have a 9mm XDS in stock. Since we are comparing frame, function, size... and not any type of ballistics, I'm not sure where there would have been any difference other than maybe loaded weight and felt recoil.

One thing you mentioned was the XD loaded chamber indicator. The Cali approved shields also have this so getting a on list shield would have been a better comparison. But over all a good read

They don't make an "ON List" XDs so how would that even be possible?

Where in my post did I say get an on list XDs? I said it has a loaded chamber indicator so a better comparison would have been a shield with a loaded chamber indicator just like the XDs. Which would be a ON LIST SHIELD.
