    Handgun Paper Work.

I recently moved and I have not updated my drivers license address, my registration on my truck is up to date and the right address. Will I be able to DROS a handgun? Does it matter if I am doing it PPT?

Better get to DMV homey. Or no gun for you.

I haven't purchased a handgun in 2014 but when I bought my handgun last year I had no problems with an incorrect driver's license address and a correct car reg address.

In fact I made all my purchases last year that way.

Why waste 25 dollars for a new drivers license? In fact, I remember reading they won't even issue you a new one just for an updated address.

I did, however, update my address with the dmv online first. Pretty painless.

Yes, car registration corrects an incorrect address on your driver's license. All though you need a non-expired driver's license. Also ensure you have a valid handgun safety card.

My CDL had my old address on the front, and my current address handwritten on the back. Used it along with my car registration, which did have my current address, and didn't have any trouble. The FFL just entered the correct address in the paperwork, and noted on the document scans that the address on the registration was up to date.

According to the rules Mattmonay put up in Post #2, a utility bill should have sufficed for residency.

In my recent "first gun purchase" experience on 6/20, though, the dealer insisted that I come back with a car registration with the correct address.

Outdated licence and correct registration definitely work. I was a little dismayed that the utility bill didn't, despite the law saying it was valid, but I didn't want to complicate matters further.

Even if your CDL and DMV registration do not show your current residence address, if your utility is a government one, such as LADWP, the utility bill is all you need to establish your residence. This is according to 4 different FFLs I've spoken to.

If the address on your California Drivers License IS correct, you only need your HSC and a Proof of Residency document with the correct address (DMV Registration, Utility Bill, etc.)

If the address on your California Drivers License IS NOT correct, you need all of the above plus a Change of Address document with the correct address (DMV Registration, DMV Registration Renewal, etc.) Yes, a DMV Registration counts as both PoR and CoA.

OP, contact your local gun shop for confirmation of what they need from you before you go in. That way there are no surprises and you will have what you need.
