I just heard that Target will not allow guns in their stores. I guess I will no longer shop at Target but will need to drop by and let them know how short sighted this policy is - do they really expect that such a policy will cause a bad guy bent on harm to stop at the door and turn around because he can not have a gun in the store? Actually, now Target is a perfect place to go shoot people because no one else will have guns.

Sorry, but you were told wrong! Target merely requests that you not bring in weapons.
This relates to the Open Carry Texas idiots walking into businesses with AK's or AR's strapped to their backs! Not related to legal CCW."Because this is a request and not a prohibition, we do not plan to communicate with our customers at this time."

Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed one.

Seems like you didn't really look into it very far before stirring the pot. They commented about OPEN CARRY and technically, they are only taking a position as a company because certain "groups" funded by a certain "someone who thinks he can buy gun policy with money" pressured them to. AFAIK, legally they cannot ban CCW no matter what their "policy" is. That said, I will still be looking for other establishments to spend my hard earned money at.I just heard that Target will not allow guns in their stores. This is the sort of thing expected to be the response to their statement and they will USE it against our cause.Actually, now Target is a perfect place to go shoot people because no one else will have guns.Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, but do it first.Comment

Sorry - I guess I got it wrong and posted before learning more. My post was based on a local tv news report which stated Target was banning guns in their stores so I assumed it was a ban on all guns - the report did not distinguish beyond stating there was a ban. Good to hear it is not a ban on ccw and thanks to all for clarifying this.Comment

Thank you open carry wing nuts. Glad your educating so many companies and people by being jacka**es.
But it's not banned just requested. But I haven't shopped at target since like 98.Comment

I do thing the executive who made this comments is simply making Target a "target" for both bad publicity and criminals. A month or so back Jack N The Box banned guns from there stores and as a result they had a spree of armed robberies. Criminals like soft targets.
Personally, I think this was just an executive who knew his particular audience was anti-gun and told them what they wanted to hear. The lack of an official policy makes it meaningless.Comment

It depends on the state as to whether or not they can ban it in their stores. A lot of States allow businesses to post signs restricting concealed carry and require that you abide by it. But like many have said, this was just an off the cuff comment by an executive and not an official policy.Seems like you didn't really look into it very far before stirring the pot. They commented about OPEN CARRY and technically, they are only taking a position as a company because certain "groups" funded by a certain "someone who thinks he can buy gun policy with money" pressured them to. Here: http://www.thewire.com/business/2014...-a-gun/373880/I think the OP has it essentially right. From the article:Seems like you didn't really look into it very far before stirring the pot. They commented about OPEN CARRY and technically, they are only taking a position as a company because certain "groups" funded by a certain "someone who thinks he can buy gun policy with money" pressured them to. Target recognizes local laws, so there is no legal action they can take, but they clearly are targeting (yes, pun intended) the CCW world as well as OC.The Wire reached out to Target to explain the details of this statement, and Target's stance on Concealed Carry. "This isn't a policy change, this is a position," said Molly Snyder, a member of Target's public relations team, in a phone interview. "We are requesting that people do not carry any firearms in our stores, including concealed carry. We will continue to follow local laws, however, concealed weapons are included in our position."Last edited by Dvrjon; 07-02-2014, 7:56 PM.Comment

Same article also stated:
So not a policy, it is a request! Furthermore, if it is a legally and properly concealed weapon there should be no problem for any customer, manager, or CCW carrier."Because this is a request and not a prohibition, we do not plan to communicate with our customers at this time."Last edited by Darryl Licht; 07-02-2014, 8:38 PM."Laws that forbid the carrying of arms...disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes.
