What's standard procedure when doing a private party transfer? Does the seller usually take 100% of the price before the 10 days or after? My only concern is what happens should the transfer be denied or something would I be out money?

Typically, buyer pays seller 100%. Buyer pays FFL $35. DROS is then started.
There is a level of trust and concern on both sides. A denial may come from either side.Last edited by code33; 09-02-2008, 2:21 AM.Disclaimer:

You should know if you do not qualify to own a gun before you try to buy one. As a seller you would get the gun back if the buyer did not qualify, as a buyer you should(if dealing with a legitimate seller)get your money back. It all comes down to trust, look what happened to the deal from the "crackhead" it completed and the buyer was worried the whole time.sigpic

My Rules on PPT firearm sales.
SELLER: Get 100% of your money PRIOR to DROSing... I wouldn't let a gun out of my possession until it was paid for in full.
BUYER: Make "not wasting the seller's time" a priority.Last edited by tonelar; 09-02-2008, 8:39 AM.sigpicComment

Three different FFL's who have it wrong. YOU DO NOT have to re-dros.
Both the buyer AND the seller are background checked by the DOJ at the time of the DROS

I'm wondering on this too, what happens when the buyer don't pull through, I heard of stories but what's the law on this?Comment

PC 12082Underlined part shows a background check is required for the seller, but no indication of where in the process that happens. In practice, both seller and purchaser information are entered into the DROS software at the beginning of the transaction - DROS Entry System for the Internet, DROS Entry Application User Manual Doc Ver 9.02 / App Ver 3.34, p 56...
If the dealer cannot legally deliver the firearm to
the purchaser or transferee or the person being loaned the firearm,
the dealer shall forthwith, without waiting for the conclusion of the
waiting period described in Sections 12071 and 12072, return the
firearm to the transferor or seller or the person loaning the
firearm. The dealer shall not return the firearm to the seller or
transferor or the person loaning the firearm when to do so would
constitute a violation of subdivision (a) of Section 12072.

No. Only one handgun per DROS if I'm not mistaken but you may have as many long guns on the DROS form as "additional guns". So to answer your question it'd be $70 for all 4 guns."Can our form of government, our system of justice, survive if one can be denied a freedom because he might abuse it?" --Harlon Carter
