RANGE REPORTS(Wilson cqb 9mm & Les baer Custom Carry)

Ladies and Gents, here is the range report I have been promising. I took my two new babies out today and will assess them individually.

First the Les Baer Custom Carry...
I took 200rds to the range today and had the following ammo on hand
    50 rds Federal Champion 230gr ball .45acp
    50rds Remington UMC 230gr ball .45 acp
    100 Rds Bulletman 230gr ball .45 acp

First and foremost I will get the boring stuff out of the way..This thing is a shooter, reliable and accurate as hell.

The gun was used with less than 1,000 rds fired ,so it was already "broken in"
I loaded the mags full and used one as a "top off" mag to ensure I was fully loaded to stress function and the gun never skipped a beat. The mags I have are the two Baer supplied mags and a Wilson 47d, all worked flawlessly. The gun hits slightly right for me but that is nothing a drift punch can not fix, no worries here. I was able to produce 5 rd groups that were one beautiful hole out to 15 yds when I did my part. I took it out to 25 yds and put ten rounds in the head of a B27 target in a nice 5 inch or so grouping, then I benched the pistol at 25 yds and shot a 5rd group that measured 1.5 inches verticle and 1.2 inches horizontal....well that meets the 1.5 at 25 yd or 3 inch at 50 promise from Baer, and I am not a ransom rest, so the gun will easily do better than advertised.

The pistol had a little more recoil impulse than I thought it would, not a soft a shooter as my nighthawk but this thing is blazingly accurate....

Up next....Brand Spankin new Wilson Combat CQB in 9mm....

100rd federal champion 115 gr ball
    50rds magtec 124 gr ball
50rds blazer brass 115 gr ball
50 rds bulletman 124 gr ball

I fired a total of 250rds today with the Wilson and this gun is like nothing I have ever owned or fired. I have owned custom and semi custom 1911s, I have owned 9mm 1911s but this blaster takes the cake by a mile and a half for sure. I read all the online write ups about how Wilsons NEED to be properly broken in before they are totally reliable in 9mm due to tight tolerances and the 9mm cartridge, I was prepared for a few ftfs, and a few light primer strikes, and failures to eject during the "break in period"...WELL being the retarded monkey that I am I racked the slide a bajillion times in the last day and hit the range with the pistol lubed with Fireclean in generous amounts.

NO hiccups of any kind, zero, nada, zip. This thing runs like a raped ape. I fully loaded the 10 rd mags and topped off for a total of 11 to stress function, did rapid fire mag dumps and fired single handed , strong and off hand only to try to stop it up. No such luck, it just kept firing...Not only was it 100 percent reliable, it shoots SO SMOOTH, really you feel like you are cheating. The pistol shot point of aim point of impact, dead nuts to 25yds....ten round shot group at 25 yds was about 4 inches out of my hand, holding on the throat of a b27, hitting the throat of said target.

Five round shot group at ten yards is pictured and the aiming point was the number 7......the next pictured group was three ten round mags fired at 15 yds and I made a bet with my son. I told him..."if any rounds go out of the X ring, I will buy you an ice cream when we leave, first shot struck the ten ring low and left of the rest of the group.....after firing the group he said..."Dad, you missed the first shot on purpose so I can have an ice cream didnt you" (smart kid) I replied, "Looks like someone is getting an ice cream, and I smiled.

All in all, this gun is a show stopper, keeper, and has out performed my expectations by a mile. AND it is even smoother than it was before the range session, which is to say like greased glass, shoots exactly where I aim, to the point that with the last ten rounds I was shooting for the numbers on the B27 target (7,8,9,X) and placing a bullet into the number I aimed at and missed only one of the ten, and that one kissed the edge of the number 9 I was aiming for. YEAH Today was a GOOD day!!

          Congratulations

Congrats on your two fine shooting and very collectible 1911 pistols. I want the Wilson Combat to go along with my Les Baer after hearing your very sweet review of the Wilson Combat. Thank you for taking the time to write that review and posting those target result pictures. I'll post some of my results when I get around to testing out my Les Baer Custom Carry.

I enjoy doing range reports. I will follow up with dirty pictures of the pistols tomorrow after round 2

Awesome report. I expected nothing less from two awesome pistols. My current plan is to get a Wilson next (most likely the CQB Light Rail) since I have a Baer.

I have a Wilson CQB 9mm as well, I've also had 0 malfunctions, I run all my guns hard, I lubed it when it was brand new and now have over 1000 rounds through it, very impressed with it. .45 has always been my favorite caliber to shoot but I'm absolutely obsessed with 9mm 1911's.

                  Why is that?

Why is that though? I see that a lot of people, both here on this forum and out in YouTube land, are very obsessed with 1911 pistols chambered in 9mm. Back in the day it used to be because the 9mm ammo was so much cheaper than 45acp, but now a days it is about the same price isn't it?

I could be wrong, but maybe because 1911 trigger/grip + 9mm recoil = easy to shoot? Seems like a winning combo to me

Well 9mm is still cheaper, 26 dollars for a value pack 100rds at wally world vs, 46 dollars for the same pack of .45....but the gun/caliber combo is a lot of fun to shoot.

Has nothing to do with price for me it's just an absolutely pleasure to shoot a 1911 in 9mm, it's like cheating, recoil is like non existent. I still love the .45 but the CQB 9mm goes to the range with me everytime.

Not quite. .45ACP brass FMJ 230Gr is still arournd 10-11 cents more expensive per round.
