    Need smith for BHP tweak.

I'll be getting a Browning Hi Power soon. It's lightly used, but unfortunately it still has the magazine disconnect. Can you guys recommend a smith in the Bay Area to take out a magazine disconnect and swap out the adjustable sights for factory fixed ones?

    Thanks.

I'm sure Tabors can do it, whether he will deactivate the mag release or not though is another question. I'm certain some gunsmiths would have a liability concern.

Note: For informational purposes only and not an action condoned or recommended by this site or its owners. Though none of my own Hi Powers have the magazine disconnects left in place, it should be understood that the option to do this is the individual owner's personal choice and his...

I have a few BHPs including a target model and removing the mag safety is pretty easy, as is installing fixed sights. Is the slide cut for plain old dovetailed fixed sights or something else?

      Thanks. Where is Tabors?

I know that I could do it myself, at least theoretically. The problem is that the finish on this gun, although used, is 99%. I don't want to risk marring the bluing. Same thing with the sights. Although it is cut for the plain old dovetailed fixed sights, I don't want to mess with it.

        Tabors is in San Bruno.

I had a BHP. Removed the mag disc. myself.

Tabors is in San Bruno. Imbert & Smithers is in San Carlos, about 5 miles south and someone at San Jose Gun Exchange can probably do the work also.

Takes all of 5 minutes, take it to the Exchange.

No scratches. Bagged and tagged parts for re-assembly if I become insane...

I just took a look at the San Jose Gun Exchange's website and it says their smith is offsite. Does that mean that I need to drop it off and wait? Or is this such a simple task that they'll do right then and there?

I did it myself in about 5 minutes. No big deal.

Do yourself a favor and get hold of Ron Vogel through Andreotti Firearm Sales in Castro Valley (510-537-6964). I had him do some work last year on a Mk 4 Srs 70 Gold Cup, and I've seen what he does with High Powers.
