    Sight types

So I'm knocking around an idea in my head, and with out giving much away on my end. I pose this question to my fellow CalGunners. What is your favorite type of pistol sights and why? Like (and forgive me if I'm not naming them correctly) a 3-dot or no dots or a v rear with a dot front. Not necessarily a specific brand but what style? Pictures of your favorite and what they're on would be awesome.

Do you have a particular use in mind? Different style sights are better/worse for different tasks.

For example, I have a Dawson Precision all Black Adjustable rear paired with a DP Fiber Optic front on a G34. This setup is awesome as a 'high speed range gun', but is less then ideal for night-time home defense.

Whereas my 'nightstand gun' is a Sig P220 Combat with a TLR-1 HL Light and 3-dot tritium night sights. I frankly hate these sights at an outdoor range; I find them incredibly slow.

My favorite 'general purpose' sights are the standard Sig all white Bar-Dot combo. Vertical bar in the center of the rear sight with a Dot on the front post.

My pistols are only range toys, so I like fiber front with serrated rear.

the OEM factory von Stavenhagen sights for the Sig Sauer P series handguns do not distract and do quite well mounted on a combat handgun. i run them on most all of my w german Sigs. there are those that have no problems with the 3 dot setup, but i find the von Stavenhagen sights to be far superior in function. the 3 dot sight system is frequently distracting to young and old eyes alike, making front sight acquisition more difficult than it needs to be; YMMV.

I also have this setup and I like it. Most 3 dot, etc are too busy for me.

Great info guys. Thank you. This project will be for quick target acquisition with a max range of maybe 50 yards. On a carbine rifle as back up sights to a magnified optic.

Maybe ask the question in the rifle sub-forum?

On rifles and carbines, I like a peep rear sights for fast shooting.

Yeah thought because the sights I'm asking about are for a pistol that it was appropriate here rather then the rifle section.

On the peep sights. I know a lot of people (well most actually) use buis that are peep rear post front. But personally I don't like them (granted I don't have a ton of experience) I cant ever seem to get my eyes lined up fast enough for fast shots. So I was thinking a set of picitanny mounted pistol sights would be a nice option for hitting a man sized target at 50-75 yards quickly with a carbine.

Maybe give these a try? They look interesting.

Those are pretty cool but still kind of a "peep" rear. But looks pretty nice. I'm just looking for what kind of sights most people prefer so I can try and use them. So if others want to try them it's a sight they are already familiar with.

I think people are already familiar with peep sights on AR15s.

And, if you're shooting for speed you're using a red dot not irons.

Don't know if you missed this or not but, back up for a magnified optic. Just an idea I have, looking for more info on preferred sight types. Not trying to start and arguments.

This is my point exactly why can't you use pistol sights for quick iron sight shooting at a limited range? I think the peep sight is what is slowing down the speed of irons.
