Is it a no brainer to buy an M&P40 FS instead of an M&P9 and buy a 9mm barrel for it?

For the reasons described, I got the 40 and not the 9. Just got the Storm Lake 40->9 conversion and mags. Haven't had a chance to shoot it as a 9 yet. Maybe this weekend or next.

To the OP: I know it's neat to have three guns in one, and would support and relish that if it were for range use only. As soon as you add in 'for SD/HD' I would say 'full stop'. I would not start making the kind of barrel/spring/mag changes in any gun that absolutely positively has to work on short or no notice. I may be wrong here, but more likely it's statistically unlikely that it would make a difference but when it comes to statistics and SD/HD I want to do everything I can to ensure things work when I need them to.
So, for a range gun, go for it. For a SD/HD gun, just say no. And if you only have one, then that degenerates to 'no'.

I have the 9 and i wanted to trade for a 40 for the fact i could get a barrel and swap. I was looking in the classifieds for trades even close by. But when push comes to shove i could not trade . I love my m&p9fs.

I think I'm just gonna stick with a 9 to be safe ... the HD thought sound valid as it will be for that in the nightstand when not in use.

Now I'm kinda deciding between the 4.25" regular M&P or the M&P Pro 5"

And all this said I am not 100% buying a M&P .. I still need to shop more and go to the range to try the others like Glock, XD, Etc. and see how I like those.

I know in holding all of them at the gun shop the M&PO felt WAY better in my hand then any of the others so that is what is leading me to believe and swaying more towards the M&P due to how absolutely perfect it felt when I was holding it ... who knows maybe shooting will feel different.
