SR1911 CMD Odd Primer Marks

Took my new SR1911 "Commander" to the range today. Brought 125 rounds of 230g FMJs and some spare mags.

I started with 25 Herters and ran 5 each through the 2 Ruger mags that came with it, 2 CM Shooting Stars and a Kimpro SS. I did have an issue with the CMs and a failure to feed the last round but I'll save that for a different thread.

First, every one went bang, no problem there. I then switched to Freedom Munitions reloads. Every one went bang. Somewhere around the 3rd mag of the FM, one of the cases bounced off the booth wall and landed on the platform in front of me. So I picked it up to look at it. I noticed a very odd mark on the primer. So I looked around on the floor for some more. Of course, the people shooting in the booth on either side were shooting 45's so it was hard to tell which were mine. (plus everyone was sweeping the floor too). The pics follow. As you can see there's a strange gouge on the primer. I found this on about a dozen cases. It seemed to clear up after a while, but I can't be sure I was picking up my brass as opposed to the others.

When I got home, I carefully inspected the breech face and detailed striped the slide to inspect the firing pin and extractor claw. I couldn't see anything that may have caused this.

I have an RIA Tactical that I've shot the same ammo using the same spare mags and haven't seen anything like this. Anyone have any ideas what may cause this?

I should add, I had no issues with ejection/extraction. The booths are a bit narrow so I couldn't tell what direction they went. None came straight back at me. More than a few bounced of the walls of the stall and hit my arms, my head, etc, but that happens with everything I've shot there.

Wow that's weird, I've never seen anything like that before. Did you get those on the last round in each mag? If so maybe the follower is doing it?

Honestly I have no idea what mags these may have come from or what # in the stack. Next time I go, I'll restrict it to the Ruger mags and collect the brass right away.

I searched for similar posts and found quite a bit but they seem to be more machining errors on the slide or ejector marks.

Primer cratering maybe, and I an just guessing due to soft primer.

I didn't. I didn't know I had an issue and swept the brass fwd of the line. The adjacent shooter's were doing the same.

I have factory fresh ammo (Blazer, WWB, PMC etc.) I'll shoot some of them next time and collect it right away.

It definitely looks like something struck the primer to raise the brass. It feels pretty sharp. Like hitting a piece of wood with a chisel before the chip breaks off.

I posted this Sunday when many were "off" for Father's day. Let this be a mid-week bump.

I opened the envelope with the test fired brass and it had no such marks. I'll bring some more FM, as well as other factory loads to the range and see if it's still doing it.
