Ruger 8 Shot Moon Clip 9mm Revolver

    Shooters-

Had a chance to talk with a couple Ruger sponsored shooters at the IRC this past weekend, and was told that Ruger would make a 6" 8 shot 9mm moon clip revolver if there was enough interest. Enough interest translates to 16,000 units. This is my very unscientific attempt to gauge interest in this gun. S&W is making the 929, but it seems to be almost vaporware at this point. I would think Ruger would like to go against this gun as a matter of pride, but then again, there are probably a limited number of guys that would buy such a gun, and most of them are competition revolver shooters.

Until you try to shoot speed loaders against a moon clip shooter in a competition. I am guessing you have never seen a BMT moon clip loader/demooner...

3" barrel and on the LCRX frame, I am all over it!

The thing going against Ruger is that S&W has built hype around the 929 as a Pro Series/JM gun. I don't think people would be into a Ruger 9mm revolver unless it offered either a very competitive price point or a trigger/action tuning job that would rival the Smith's.

I think there should be a lot of interest, USPSA approved using 8 shot revolvers (scored minor) in the revo division. 9mm is nice and stubby and would work great in a moon clipped 8 shot gun, vesus the 6 shot moon clipped 625 (in .45).

If S&W drags there feet, then Ruger has a great opportunity to jump in and take the lead.

Make it with the interchangeable cylinder so I can shoot 357/38 and I'm all over it!!!

I'd likely buy one if it makes it to California. Would prefer a shorter barrel, 4 or 5 inches.

I've been on the lookout for a 625 to shoot in Revolver, but would consider an offering from Ruger IF the trigger could be made as smooth as a S&W. So far in my experience, that hasn't happened.
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I'd be interested if it came in a 4" barrel with adjustable sights. I'd also like a spring kit from Wolff, like that for the GP and SP.

$900 is too much to pay for a regular revolver. Something that is special will not sell very many units, especially if it is expensive. A 9mm revolver is something special because if someone wanted a 9mm, they would most likely just get a 10 shot semi-auto for around $600.

I have been looking for an affordable 9mm revolver for a long time. A 6 shot 3"-4" revolver would be good enough for me. One problem is the California roster. I can't import a gun that isn't listed. and I don't feel like driving all over hells creation trying to deal with a single shot exemption.

I don't see why they can't just ream a cylinder for 9mm and install a 9mm barrel on a regular 357 frame. I know it isn't as easy as it sounds, but it isn't difficult.

P.S. I just looked at the prices of revolvers on the S&W website. When did they go up that high? For some reason I remember them around $750.

Yes. Built from the ground up as a compact 9mm would be great. Chambering a .357 size revolver in 9mm just doesn't make a lot of sense to me except for the moon clip deal.

I love my N frame .45ACP but it is huge and heavy for a .45ACP. Such a gun with moon clipped .460 Rowland... NOW yer talkin'.
