Painting Front Sight

I have a Ruger LCP that I don't shoot particularly well. I think there are several reasons for this, which I am working on. One of the problems that might be the easiest to fix is the sights. I have the gen 2 with the slightly larger sights, but they are solid black, front and back, and tend to blend into each in the sight picture, and also blend into the target, especially if you are shooting at a black bullseye.

So I want to try painting the front sight. What kind of paint should I use? I have seen ivory nail polish recommended. Is that permanent? how do you get it off Zytel if you change your mind and want to try something else? IT seems like the solvents in nail polish and in many paints are likely to dissolve some of the surface of the sight and fuse with it, making it really difficult if not impossible to change your mind.

Anyone have other ideas for paint?

I heard a $2 bottle of white has worked wonders for many.

Used to use nail polish. Bright green or red worked the best. Was easy to remove and easy to touch up.

Dawson Fiber is the way to go.

I also use testors. If you're in the bay area I'll let you use mine. It only takes a dab.

I originally used Testor model paint for this type of work but it is enamel and takes a long time to dry. I have switched to using fingernail polish which drys more quickly.

I have found that a coat of white followed by what ever color you want to use works best.

They have a rainbow of different colors available I get some strange looks at the cosmetic counter when I re-stock my supply but who cares.

I use the fluorescent masking tape from walmart. Single edge razor to fit.

I use automobile touch-up paint, good quality and long lasting.

I use their Watch Lume formula. Very bright glow in the dark.

I've used the glow in the dark paint in the past. My friends dad used to put it on his compound bow sights. You can probably pick it up at hobby shops. Otherwise as many have mentioned Testor paints work well... I'd go with white or any other his-vis color....

I've been thinking about trying a dab of red nail polish or model paint on my 642 front sight. Chances are in a SD shooting you're going to be point shooting and will never see your sights

Here is what I have done on a few (range only) guns. When I am at the range, I look in the trash cans for the shoot-n-see target backing paper. This is the paper that people discard after they peeled off the sticky S-N-S target. The corners of these backings have florescent green remnants. Take these and cut some thin strips that are the size of your front sight, peel it off, and stick on the sight. I works good as long as you don't have barrel porting that will blow it off the front sight. It will last for a little while. You can test your sight this way without messing up the sight by painting it.

Thanks for the many helpful suggestions, guys. Looks like I'm headed the quick drying, easily obtainable nail polish route.

Can anyone who has used nail polish please confirm that it scrapes off OK and doesn't melt or harm the plastic under it?
