If there is a bevel recessed into the slide to match then I'd say it's a barrel bushing to tighten up the fitment for accuracy.

How interesting, it does appear that it the thread protector itself is beveled, likely it interfaces with the bushing area of the slide. Maybe there is some additional stabilization offered by that arrangement.

Just a heads up to the OP; that's not a factory modification AND if you're in California AND you haven't registered that handgun with a threaded barrel as an 'assault weapon' (yeah yeah I know dumb, but it's the law) I'd strongly advise having this post deleted.

The pistol is not in my possession yet and i emailed the GS to check if the barrel has a threaded barrel under the cap. I was looking at the other sources on the internet and it seems the original beretta stainless golden has no cap at the end of the barrel.

^Okay, cool. I checked with my Beretta factory guy; forwarded him the pictures 'cause I was curious and he say that's correct, factory didn't have that barrel/cap.

Good looking pistol and a new SS barrel is relatively easy to find.

Wasn't there someone who was adding a bushing to Beretta's that looked very similar to that? I recall reading about them somewhere, just don't remember who it was that was adding those on.

Aftermarket bubba job.

I bet bubba threaded the original factory barrel and hung that crap on it.

If he did, knock a chunk of change off the value of that collectible Beretta.

And if the front portion of the slide has been machined with as well, all that gun is now is a shooter.

With the holes in the front of the cap I'd say it's threaded. Those holes probably accept a spanner wrench to tighten the nut to keep a wrench off of the bevel.
