    1911 Questions

I want to get a 1911!.... I want a GI style gun. What brands should I look at, I don't know much about all the different styles of 1911's.

    Springfield GI.
But for not much more a Kimber Custom II is a more refined gun.
What are you going to do with it?

I am never getting a Springfield, because I had nothing but issues with one of their M1a Socom's... I am going to have it as my SHTF gun.

You won't find a real GI style, other than Springfield..

If you want just a basic model, get a Kimber Custom II. You can always remove the swartz safety, even though it feels one hell of a lot better than the Colt series 80 garbage.

For a GI 1911, you can look at either Springfield Armory, or RIA. I think Colt might offer one as well.

You can also look into the Colt NRM Government models. It'll still have the fixed combat sights, regular beavertail, thumb safety, short GI rod and plug, but with a lower ejection port.

And it comes with a pretty bluing. Biggest difference would be the S80 Firing Pin block actuated by the trigger.

I shot my buddies GI Springfield along with my new Kimber custom 2 TLE the other day. The Springfield was shot about 250-300 rounds continuously without any problems. I shot 500 rounds trough my kimber continuously without problems. Both can easily hit a steel human size target at 25-50yards. I like them both, the Springfield is a good bargain.

I have a Springfield GI and like it (as far as "plane jane" 1911s go). I originally bought it for its nostalgic looks. However, it did jammed when I first got it, but after I tuned the extractor (which just means carefully bending it towards the case rim a little bit ) it has been 100% reliable for the past 550 rounds.

If you really don't want a Springfield there is also the Auto Ordinance GIs, however you'll find that they have received mixed reviews, Colt also had WWI & II GI reps., but were very expensive and are not available to us here in California. For what you're looking for you might want to look into a Colt 1991 or a Kimber Custom II, as others have already suggested.

                      Aluminum Frames

Just be cautious and do plenty of research (read the reviews). You should know what you want to use the gun for, defense, target, plinking, carry, etc, and have an idea of the type of ammo you want to shoot. This Custom CDP II has 500 rounds through it, with 100 of them Winchester JHP. This is the feed ramp after the JHP session (the anodizing is GONE). I will add though that this gun still shoots anything flawlessly and accurately, with no feed or fire problems!

In my world.... all my guns should be ready for carry / defence. I will really have to give it some thought.

That is something to definitely consider. I know that my CZ SP-01 isn't the first one I'd go to for self-defense. I shot light, gaming loads out of it and I know I wouldn't trust my life to those. I'd rather use something bigger with more 'umph' Like my 1911.

Springfield GI for plain jane shootem up fun, or a Loaded if you want refinement.

I dunno.. if SHTF, I'd run to my SP-01 pretty darn fast.
