    Rust inhibitor

I recently purchased a Shield and I'm using a versacarry holster.
Being that I'm in Alabama in the summer sweat is a concern as it's directly against my skin.

What is a good coating to prevent rust that isn't oily?

    Thank you for your help

The only coatings that are good are a chemically reactive coating

Norrells moly resin is widely used in the industry as a factory finish.

You could apply a layer of moly resin sprayed and baked over the factory finish.

Or if you are swig rust signs, have it professionally refinished in moly resin or cerakote.

remember what ever chemical you will be using will also be directly rubbing up against your open pores and will more than likely enter your body. be careful

Eezox is a fantastic rust inhibitor and it goes on dry compared to most oils like CLP and such. Not sure if the heat will make it run, though, and it's pretty expensive compared to other products.

AMSOil MP. they have 2 formulas, the newer one leaves a fine coating of protection. They are both able to penitrate iron, right into the pores, and have great staying power in water, salt water, salty air, sweat, and as much heat as the barrel can produce. I use the original formula in the dry desert, but you may want the extra coating of the newer one.
AMSOil is the original synthetic that Mobil One and all the others copied when the AMSOil pattens ran out several years ago.

                Eezox or Corrosion-X.

EEzox. Use it on all my $$$ O/U's and carry guns.

Eezox did the best between the most popular products in the market in this time elapsed salt spray test.

Anyone know if Camellia Oil or Frog Lube would be sufficient against rust?

Even though it's a small contact area, I would rather not have chemicals against the skin on a daily use.

Shields are stainless steel, yes I know stainless steel can still rust. But I don't think you'll have to take any extra precautions except maybe wiping the gun down with oil if you clean it occasionally. I carried a Kahr CW9 with a stainless slide for 2 years and it required no cleaning except when I shot it. Those types of guns require so little attention because they're designed to be carried. If you're exposing the gun to a crazy amount of sweat, just wipe it down with an oily rag or silicone cloth at the end of the day.

Here's a pretty simple test done with some popular gun oils. That's on regular steel though. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...rrosion-tests/

I carried concealed everyday now for 33 years. At the end of your day wipe it down with a silicone cloth before you put it away.
