I don't see the big deal if you have one already.. if you don't like the safety then just don't engage it..

But but but it could accidentally engage like when you sit down or something. Then you go to draw and fire and it doesn't fire and you die.

Actually, I would opt to keep one with the safety. Not because I believe that the safety lever makes it any safer to carry, but because if I DO have to use it, there is one less thing for a jury, presuming a lawsuit results, to hassle me about.

when you become accustom to disengaging the safety during draw... its a non-issue...

5 of my 7 handguns have safeties... I prefer them (explanation isn't needed - but it's a non issue as far as use).

Agree, safety no safety it really does not matter. The Shield safety is well executed. It is not prone to accidentally activating or deactivating. I like the option of using it or not. But I have many years of training with 1911s, manual safeties do not scare me.
But on another note, S&W are riding this cash cow for all she's worth. They understand it just needs to be a little different and we can sell thousands more of them. Next will be a Shield .45, first with safety then without $$$$$$.

Different start with similar conclusion: Nearly all of my training has been with handguns with no safety. I have no concerns about adding a carry gun with a safety. I'll simply train with it sufficiently until I'm confident in my handling of it. I really don't get why this is such a big issue for so many.

If you don't or can't or won't train enough to use your handgun properly, it's not the gun's fault.
