    AR pistol question

I'm a California resident living in Alabama. Lets say I pick up a stripped lower, and then build it as an AR pistol. Can I then bring it to California after putting on a BB and 10rnd mag, and vol reg it?

Per Federal laws, you can only acquire firearms in your State of residence.
There is an exemption for rifles & shotguns, as long as the transfer complies with the laws of both States.

So, being a CA resident, there is no legal method for you to acquire a firearm while you are in AL.

If you are a AL resident, you can legally acquire a Title 1 Other (AR receiver), build it into a CA legal AR pistol and bring it with you when you move to CA.
Once you establish CA residency, you will need to report it via the New Resident Firearm Ownership Report.

Not necessarily that simple. It depends on state requirements for being considered a resident. If you are going to school there, you should have changed ASAP to avoid out of state fees. You will also want to look into requirements for being a California resident for when you move back. The more research you do, the better. Laws can be confusing, so the more knowledge you have, the better.
