Sig's 1911 is very hard to beat.

I love my Sig 1911, the stainless railed model has treated me well.

That said, id like to get another higher end 1911 with some more traditional lines.

I have nothing against Colts. But my Kimber Royal II is a phenomenal gun. I run about 1k rounds per month through it in competition and it simply doesn't fail. Granted, my gun is far from a stock Kimber, but it has always run this way. I've never met anyone who has had problems with their Kimber like you see on the web.

Take my anecdotal evidence for what it is. Go with whatever wiggles your weiner.

i'll admit it, my sights were misaligned from the kimber factory. they paid for shipping both ways, got the gun back in 10 days, and the gun has been a flawless shooter. now, i did send it in during the warranty period, so take that for what its worth.

My custom II is at @1500 rds and the only "issue" is an out of spec slide stop, which they promptly replaced when I called them. The gun runs flawless and shoots like a dream, I guess no one told it that it was an $800 1911 with a Kimber roll mark on its slide...

I cannot understand the whole "you are paying for the roll mark" bull****. They cost around $1k. What do you think they would be worth without the roll mark?

The are worth $1k all day long.

The only Colts I seriously question the value of are the Special Combat Government models. I don't think I could part with $2k for one of those.

I have a Colt Series 70 from long, long ago (20+years). Won't give it up. Had it throated, polished and ported by a gunsmith for reliability. Nothing fancy, but it's reliable and a Colt. And it's heavy.

Me too. Mine is probably 35-40 years old. It has to be because I remember my dad owning it when I was a teenager. And that was well, a long time ago . It's an amazing shooter. I upgraded trigger, beavertail, etc. but its core is still old colt quality. Nowadays, I'm not so sure about colt. But the old models, awesome.

Completely agree. I love my RIA tac II. Just jailed another, regular tactical in 9mm. Got to shoot it today (it's in jail at my range and I get conjugal visits) and it's amazing. Accurate, perfect reliability, and smooth shooting.

You can sure pay more for a 1911, but it's hard to get more. RIA's are awesome. And not just for the price.

Growing up my dad had a Colt Gold Cup .45 but sold it too my uncle. Pissed he didn't hand it down to me when I was old enough.

You can't go wrong with either, but Personally id get a Colt.

I hear this argument from time to time and it baffles me how people come to that conclusion. With the exception of a few models, I don't feel that Colt's are overpriced at all.

Dan Wesson heritage should be in your price range but will need SSE or a pm7

i would bet a beer that a colt 1911 base model (around $1k) is marked up about 4 times the cost to manufacture. there is obviously nothing wrong with that but i would classify it as overpriced just on that aspect alone.

ria gets some great reviews out there, i dont own one but what i heard from shot show this year is that their new lineup is pretty dang good. ria start out for less than half the cost of a colt 1911.

there is a reason for that markup and its because colt has a much more faithful group of followers. if they have gotten better with their qa, i would be happy to own another but at this time there are too many other players in the market that do it better for the same or nearly same cost.
