    GSSF?

Picked up my first Glock last week and managed to get it to the range a couple of times including a class with ASDS as part of the SD Chapter's May shoot/meet - great time and good training.

There was a GSSF application in the pistol case and I'm wondering if there are advantages to joining even if I likely won't be competing? Thanks!

Personally I regret joining GSSF as a life member.. I did it to shoot matches and get the discount coupon...

But in my area the only dealer that accepts GSSF, is an hour and a half away or 2 and a half hours. Went down there (ProForce) which is LEO/Mil only, purchase my Glock 23 Gen3 (gen 4 is still off limits to civ). Get put on a waiting list till they come in. Apparently they don't have any interest in their civilian customers because their gen4s came in regularly, but after 10 months of waiting I decided to get my money back and luckily found a Gen4 23 PPT.

But at least I get to shoot the GSSF matches, oh wait there is only 1 a year in my area the other is 4 hours north. So from a GSSF current member, honestly if I were to do it again. I wouldn't investment/personal use wise. YMMV, but that's my take on my GSSF membership, not exactly of good use to my self personally.

I joined for 2 years, to shoot a match. Is it worth it?
Maybe if I can make use of the coupon (I've got enough glocks already, I'd be buying one jus to use the coupon, maybe a 26, maybe a 19)

Well, the match was fun. It's not nearly as intense as a USPSA match, just a fun day. BUT you have to also pay a match fee anyway.

The GSSF armorer, however, is worth it (heck, just show up, you don't even need to be a member of GSSF or registered at the match from what I can tell).

But I joined it anyway, it wasn't brutally expensive. Is it worth it? it is if you want another gen3 gun (and can wait, apparently. We have only one dealer in SF Bay Area that does this as well and I hear it's also a very long wait). If you've never shot a match of any kind before, this is actually a nice introduction to it because it's safe and friendly.

the advantage of the GSSF membership, is the LEO pricing on new Glocks - I think that the current pricing is something like... http://www.gssfonline.com/GSSF_Pisto...nformation.pdf

also there are match advantages as well, though I am unsure of what they are.

Thanks all. I saw the registration form for the Glock armorer course had an option for GSSF and figured that might be worth it. Coupon is probably worthwhile as well since I would like to add a 26 some day. If they had a match close by I wouldn't mind shooting but I'm not likely to travel just to shoot a match somewhere else. Appreciate the input.

Yep, discounted pricing on Glocks. Enables you to take the Glock armorer course. Also shoot matches.

The matches are fun. Get to shoot fast but don't have to stress over reloads, moving, drawing from the holster.

My wife and I both have won free Glock certificates through random draws at the matches. I have also won $75 for performance at a match. We have also bought two Glocks through the GSSF discount. Pretty much worth he $35/year membership to me.

First, you'd get a better response to this thread in the competition forum.

I joined GSSF once 3 years ago, and paid the $35 fee the one time and have not had to pay it since as my membership keeps getting renewed through either random or performance match awards.

The matches are easiy for beginners while still challenging for the verterans (the pool gets deep once you become a Master), and the COFs never change so you can practice them if you would like. They give away a ton of prizes that include, money, knives, shovels, memberships, and guns. I shoot about 7 GSSF matches a year of which one is an easy 7 hour drive one way (Reno, NV) away. Why, because I enjoy competing, and you win stuff. What other manufacturer supports their customers with competition dedicated to using their product and provides prizes for the low cost of $25 per entry. I regularly $30 to shoot IDPA/USPSA club matches, and if I am lucky I get a pin, and maybe a T-Shirt.

In addition to matches you can purchase a pistol at a discount $425, but you do have to find a GSSF dealer with guns in stock in your area which can be challenging especially in today's market. They also have an armorer at every match that will replace any warn out parts on your gun free of charge.

I don't want to spread the KoolAid too much, but as a result of GSSF, I have made some really good friends, met some great people, and last year Calguns.net was able to giveaway a free GLOCK, and it never would have happened if I didn't start shooting GSSF a few years back.

GSSF is good intro to competition shooting, the random prizes do happen. Ive had my membership extended twice. My brother has won money many times and a gun. If you have a team shooting, you can win a plaque.

two matches in Socal a year -- norco and piru
                  two in Norcal
one in reno, and used to be one in vegas (i think its coming back)
i think AZ has a couple.
There are matches across the country if you like to travel.

One gripe about the matches is how they are run, sometimes its terrible. Matches shouldnt take more than two hours to complete. But ive waited 5 hours to complete 3 stages, because of the screwy system. And when you follow their system, the RO does it differently, all ROs run their particular stage differently, so it gets confusing. Ive seen one RO snap at a guy who put his name label on a score sheet, the RO yelled at him saying "IM SUPPOSED TO DO THAT!!!!". Other ROs want you to do that, the poor guy was new and didnt know what to say, it was uncalled for.

There are plenty of Blue Label dealers in the bay area (has to be close to a dozen by now). I've bought a 17 and 19 (was last month) at Triple A in Vallejo with no wait (and they always seem to have a good supply of 10rnd mags to swap for the highcaps that come with Blue Label guns). Paid $425 before tax and DROS (3 mags).

If you like Gen 3 Glocks it's a good way to get them at a discount. 34 or another 17 are next on my list.
