    Glock Extended Mag Release Recommendations

Picked up my Glock 19 today. Great gun, and had a chance to spend some time with coryhenry's on the range. Only problem, which I knew going in, is that I seem to have some trouble getting mags to release without changing my grip a bit more than I'd like. My thumb touches the mag release with my normal grip but I can't put enough pressure on it to release unless I shift my grip. I'd like to eventually use this as a carry pistol so I don't want to install some huge competition release. I'm thinking of picking up the factory extended release and filing it down a bit if necessary, but wondering if anyone else has experience with an extended release that works well while carrying.

Also, it's going to the range tomorrow for the first time and I'm assuming things will loosen up a bit - is this something that will get easier after a couple hundred rounds?

    Thanks in advance.

The Vickers Tactical extended mag release is the best on the market right now. Tried the Glock OEM, but I find that it is too long and protrudes to a point where it is not really ergo for my grip on the gun.

Vickers is the way to go, however...

Here's my philosophy... If you modify your guns and create muscle memory specific to your mods, how well will you handle a stock gun?

If you are competing then trick that baby out. If not why not train and become proficient with it as stock? It's not the only gun that you will need to rotate 10degrees to actuate the mag release, and once you get used to that and re-establishing a grip you'll be golden for any pistol you pick up.

I agree to an extent, but the Glock 19 has an exceptionally terrible mag release (especially Gen 3) paired with a large grip.

I am ordering the Vickers as well. I don't enjoy hassling with my gun to swap mags.

Thanks all. I agree completely about practicing and generating muscle memory, and I want defensive function over convenience. The cost for a release is low compared to the price of ammo, training, holsters, etc. not to mention the gun itself, so my thought is finding a release that minimizes grip shift without compromising function through inadvertent drops is a low-risk investment. And, it's easily reversible. My plan is to run through several hundred presentations before committing to it as a carry option.

The G34 comes with the Glock factory extended release.
Its no frills but it works. I have never once accidently dropped while holding, firing, or while it was holstered in years of use and thousands of rounds.

It makes sense that the faster you can reload and get the pistol back on target, the more effective you will be, whether in competition or self defense.

I have a Gen 4 with the now standard Glock extended mag release and it makes a huge difference to me.

Try it. You can always reinstall the factory release.

Where as with me, and my smaller hand size the extra size of the OEM extended mag release is just perfect. They are so cheap you really cant go wrong finding one that fits.

Which is the OEM G21 mag release, part number GLSP01981 for about $3. Round off the corners, they can be a little sharp.

The only way to go. Sand the edges and you have the vickers for a 10th of the price.

It's a great upgrade in my opinion. Makes it much easier for me to use with the glock extended mag release, never tried the vickers though.

I run the OEM Glock 34 release on all of my Glocks, including one that will be on my CCW. No accidental releases, just consistent performance and reliability. I filed down the corners too.

I found that part number on Amazon for about $7 last night. I couldn't seem to find it on the Glock site, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place - anyone have a link?
