Jamming Amt Backup

Hey guys, I am having a problem with my AMT Backup 380 Sao model. It jams after every shot. Failure to feed.

The rounds nose dive into the feed ramp and get stuck.

At the range the other day, I noticed that the magazine had a little wiggle room. (For those that are not familiar with the back up. It has one of those levers on the bottom that holds the mag in place rather than an internal mag catch) the lever though seemed to be as far forward as it could go, making me suspect that its worn or something, so I did a little test, I pushed the mag in the rest of the way as i fired, and FTF problems totally stopped. Gun ran great as long as i held the mag in.

So I think i know whats causing the problem, but I figured before throwing money at it, I would seek the advice of some Calgunners to get a second opinion.

Sounds like you found the problem.
Now to replace the mag catch or figure out a way to make it taller where it contacts the mag.
Mine needed a breech face and feed ramp clean up to feed right.

Not surprised at all, I hated mine with a passion. Sounds like you found the problem, I'm not sure if you can find replacement parts anymore. Maybe pick up a second one as a parts gun?

That pistol has not been in production for decades---when I managed a gun store, we had nothing but trouble with those guns---sent most back to the factory, which doesn't exist anymore. Finding parts could be tough---maybe a good gunsmith could add a bit of material to the magazine release to hold the mag higher? Good luck...

So for those of you who don't know of this little Gem, google "gunpartscorp". great little sight with some hard to find parts. Found the latch i need for about $17 probably not the cheapest out there, but pretty easy to find!

I will probably end up buying a new latch. I will update on my progress soon!

Most Malfunctions are magazine related....

have you googled to see if another magazine that is still in production has a spring that could work to replace your magazine's spring?
