G17 v.s. G22

I like the G23 alot, but the full size grip feels better in my hand. What's the recoil of G22 like compared to the G23? Is G17 alot easier shooting than either? I heard that the more compact the glock the less recoil it has, is this true?

Which ever full size I get I'm also planning on getting the compact version of that same caliber.

So cost and tactical reasons aside, should I get a G17 or G22? 2 extra rounds of 9mm doesn't make that big a diff I don't think and I don't mind the recoil of a .40

I would love some comparisons from people who've shot both. What's the pro and con for each? they seem pretty similar to me at this point.

So far the reason I have for wanting a G17 is perhaps my wife can shoot it too since she hates the .40 I wonder if it will be illegal for her to use my high caps.

Your wife will thank you for getting the G17......She will shoot it more accurately....it will recoil less...alot less....her confidence will grow....and If she's happy...you'll be happy. My wife is a fan of the 9mm round....and owns her own S&W MP9. I shot the 23 ans 22 side by side....and believe it or not the 23 had more recoil IMO.....at least it seemed that way. A glock 9mm is going to be like night and day for you in comparison to their 40 cal counterpart. I think you'll be quite happy with a glock in 9mm.

To answer your question about G22's recoil vs G23's recoil: If you can handle the G23's recoil, G22 won't be a problem. It recoils a little less than the G23.

Get the G17!!! 9mm is not only more pleasant to shoot but it's cheaper... After owning multiple .40's I will never buy another since there's no real good reason to own one unless you're issued one for duty.

I prefer shooting the G17, but I agree to go with the G22. Since you already have the G23, this would be a great supplement to your existing Glock.

I have all the Glock .40s, and love each one. As mentioned above, you are used to the G23, might as well get the G22. Also mentioned above, getting a drop-in conversion barrel and 9mm mags effectively gets you both calibers. Heck you could even get a .357 Sig barrel to complete the set.

The .40s accept conversion barrels, the 9mm models do not. Why not get the .40 and have it all?

The size, availability of mags and parts -the g17 is the best. Fits your hand, low recoil, easy to double tap. Yes 9mml is weaker than 40sw, but accuracy and multiple hits count.

G 17 has a proven track record with a round that is relatively inexpensive, has manageable recoil and with the proper type of ammunition, effective. I don't buy into the 9 vs. 40 vs 45 crap. As long as you hit your target and you can operate your firearm proficiently, you have the gun you need. Find what works for you and not what others tell you to buy. Advice is good to have but remember you are the one buying/using the gun.

G17. Its a classic. Can't go wrong with a 9mm Glock.

9mm vs. 40sw
1) The 40sw is, for lack of a better explanation, a little snappier. Follow up shots and every second/minute is crucial.
2) 9mm ammo is cheaper; so you get more range time for practice. Shot placement very important.
3) With good name brand 9mm JHPs, the performance is similar or good enough (40sw= slow & weak).
4) And if you want something a little bigger, I would go with a 45acp chambered pistol.

how is the .40SW slow and weak? did you ever check the ballistics?

the .40S&W is snappier by design, but it is almost as fas as the 9mm, with
take down power close to the .45ACP.

since we don't live in a state where caliber choice effects magazine capacity go with the .40. As others have stated get a conversion barrel if you or the wifee want to shoot 9mm.
