M&P Shield IWB Carry Dropping Mags

So here is my problem.

I am a lefty and I IWB carry my M&P Shield using an Old Faithful holster. I love the gun, it fits well in my hand and shoots on target with no failures ever. I have become used to doing mag changes with my left index/trigger finger and do not use the manual safety, even though I'm a lefty this is not a big deal...

What is a big deal is that during the course of the day from normal IWB carry and movement, the magazine release gets pushed and my magazine will detach from the pistol. It has yet to drop completely but on numerous occasions I have checked my firearm during the course of the day and notice that the magazine has been released. I can only figure that the magazine release is pushing up against either my pants or belt, and since I wear it on my left side with the mag release exposed, it releases. I don't think this would be a problem if the magazine release were covered up such as it would be if a right handed shooter were carrying it.

Is anyone else having a similar problem? Or does anyone have a remedy/suggestion?

I'm considering selling the shield and going with a Springfield XDs because I cant count on my Shield 100%.

I tried, but unlike the other M&P's models you cant switch the mag release on the Shield. Unless someone knows of a mod to make that happen? I searched the internet and spoke to a few smiths and had no luck.

Is it the kydex on the holster thats pushing on the mag release, or does the mag release actually sit outside your holster??

My Kholster I use for my FS M&P .45 used to do the same thing, I heated it up with the wifes hair dryer & was able to mold it a bit better, so that it doesent even touch it anymore.

as BPS said, try heating and reshaping that spot. It that doesn't work, go for a different holster. not all designs work well, and not all great holsters can just be made backwards and work as well left handed.

This sounds like more of a holster issue than a gun issue?

The problem is carrying a right-handed gun in a left-handed holster. You might want to try giving a custom holster guy a call and see if they can make you a kydex holster that has a little extra material that covers the mag release. I can whole-heartedly recommend TCB Firearms down in Phoenix, Jason is a great guy who does excellent work. If there is a solution to your problem, he will find it.

I have to agree with all of you! The gun is a great piece, I'm going to try a different holster. It'll be a less expensive route vs. buying the XDs. Thanks to all for the input. mstlaurent I'll give TCB a call on Tues thanks for the referral.
