I was given this handgun sometime ago by my father who doesn't remember where it came from. There is a serial number on the butt and NO other markings anywhere, including under the grip. Any help??

100% Iver Johson.
At some point in it's life someone cut the barrel down. The markings would have been on the top rib of the barrel.You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.

Iver Johnson ,Owl Head grip is the give away. Looks to be 38 S&W round , at least all mine are. And some came with short barrels , but that one has the front sight missing so it has been cut down for pocket carry.
