That is a great gun to start with if you are wanting to mold it exactly to your liking. If you buy it, Id suggest upgrading the sights, add beaver tail, maybe lower the ejection port and trigger to get things started.

I'd go $500 max considering you can get a new RIA for the same price. You'll likely spend a little money on this gun fixing it up so consider that too.

If he's firm on his price of $550, and won't negotiate at all, I would probably buy it anyway. Its in usable condition and we don't know what it comes with. Does it have extra mags? Holster(s)? Mag pouches? Ammo? These things all increase value. If its the gun and 1 mag the price is OK. If he has 5+ mags and a couple holsters its actually a really good price.

What's the benefit of low round counts on non queen safe firearms that only increase in value as a function of inflation (i.e. not collector's value).

As a reference my girlfriend got this for $475 four months ago from a LGS. Less than $550 OTD. It has target sights installed, so that would be at least a $100 upgrade.

Its a milspec. You can buy a new one for 550-625. I wouldn't spend more than 500 for it. Whats with SA and their lack of attention to detail. Whats with the extractor sticking out on the back of the slide? I see that too often with SA.

When I buy a used gun, the amount I am willing to pay is based on how much I think I can get for it if I had to sell it. I realized a long time ago there are way more guns out there than I have $$$ so I try to take the emotional element out of it as much as possible and just look at the numbers. So far this plan has worked out well, of course I very rarely sell a gun.
