Opinions are welcome about the AO 1911A1, also Rock Island 1911A1, and the High Standard 1911A1. Looking only at the GI Spec models, cannot pay Colt or Kimber prices. Thanks, USMCM16A2

What about Springfield's GI and Mil-Spec series? Both will range you 400-550ish new and used. Very good handgun that comes with a lifetime warranty.

400 for a GI is relatively easy if you are lucky. I missed the one for 400 here and just dropped the 450 since I did not want to deal with transfer fees to have it transferred from gunbroker or the like.

If you pony up a couple more bucks I think you can get into an Entreprise entry level 1911. It is not on the list yet but Entreprise is working on it. I handled one while picking up my P6, it felt great in my hand, trigger felt great, the finish left a little to be desired. But when I asked how much they were going for he said 525-550, which completely made up for the finish.

Will the Enterprise 1911 have to have the Mag Disconnect, loaded chamber indicator, etc crappola?

I don't know about the mag disconnect, but there was not a loaded chamber indicator. I handled this one from this thread.

I have an Auto-Ord 1911A1 that my dad got me awhile back. Its always jammed a lot. Even after taking it to a gunsmith to have the feed ramp worked on it still has a 5% failure rate. It is accurate, though.

AO = junk.

Don't know much about High Standard. I have the feeling that they come from the same factory that produces the RIA and Charles Daly 1911A1 (I think they both come from the same factory in the Phillipines).

RIA's are not bad for the price. The main gunsmith at Bain and Davis, Peter, says that they are great for the money.

I will first find out what type of metalurgy (sp?) these RIAs are made as I would pay the extra $$ for SA GI or Mil-Spec as these are forged.

Newer AO's are suppose to be better I hear. I have never owned one though. I'd pick one up if the price was low. My neighbor wants the ZG51 pit bull version just because he likes pitbulls!
