Customizing my SA loaded 1911 9mm

Decided to add some custom touches to my SA 9mm. First thing was adding a Dawson FO front sight, 115 wide.

Then came the grips, I prefer to have the front strap checkered and this didn't come checkered. I tried some Hogue wrap around finger groove grips. Those were ok but didn't give me the grip I wanted especially when my hands start getting sweaty. I heard of people using grip tape but while picking out my VZ operator grips, I saw they had this rubberized grip tape in gray. I haven't shot the gun yet but it seems to have decent grip and I think it actually looks pretty good.

Since I had grips ordered, might as well get rid of the ils and get a new MSH with magwell. Ordered an Ed Brown chainlink 2 and spent some serious time with a file to blend the magwell opening. I chose the 2 piece design just in case I messed up the magwell and it also made it simpler to do the numerous test fits. There's still a little bit of file marks showing but it's pretty smooth and not too bad considering it's my first attempt.

    Ok, now some pics!

Nice! Looks great. Have the black/grey operator II on my Loaded 9mm. Need to get the MSG w/magwell.

Looks great. I'd do a trigger job too. Many people bash 9mm 1911's. They're the same ones who never shot one. Great guns.

Agreed! Mine in 9mm is a rock but it is a joy to shoot!

Did a little polishing of the trigger and lightly tweaked the sear spring and with the replacement of the ils, got the trigger to about 3.5 lbs. I didnt even use a reduced power hammer spring, just used the spring in the Ed Brown frame rebuild kit. I'm considering getting some tools to set the sear angle but want to get more rounds thru the gun before I make that decision.

I dont know know why some people have issues with a 9mm 1911, yeah it'supposed to be in 45 but it's a great gun. I'm considering getting a 1911 in 40 just for the hell of it.

I think the sear is MIM so good luck on it. I did my LT (Loaded Target) 1911 9mm and got it down to a safe 2# 3oz. I did a RO in 45 but the angle I cut on it didn't hold long enough. A 1911 in 9mm is a joy to shoot it's light in recoil even with full power loads. If you shoot steel matches and reload it'll keep you shooting a lot more with hardcast and once fired brass.

I would like to try steel, do you know where in the bay/north Bay that does it?

Looks nice. I would like to polish frame a slide more so it match slide release, safety, and hammer.

Yeah, the factory finish doesn't do it for me. Might try and polish the sides if I get bored later? lol
