    Steyr L-A1

Hey fellas i've been interested in this gun for a good while. Well more specifically the L40-A1. I know they are brand new and barely getting imported. So I am trying to see if I can find anyone who can potentially get me one of these. But with that said how are steyrs? If anyone owns one feel free to chime.
    Thanks guys.

Get one. I was lucky enough to find someone who let me put a couple hundred rounds through it on two occasions. The sights are trapezoidal but I found them to be pretty easy to use. Low bore axis and high grip lead to a soft shooting gun. Trigger is exceptional with nice crisp break and short reset. Probably the second best trigger behind the ppq though that one has a little too short reset IMO. Not sure how many rounds went through that particular steyr but it was unmodified and a real pleasure to shoot. Of course this was the 9mm version but I doubt the 40 is that much different.

Might be difficult to get one in CA since you will have to sse and aftermarket parts are pretty rare for the series in general.

I have the M series and love them.

Yeah i think the L40-A1 model is rare in general. Now in california is gonna be nearly impossible. But I am determined to get one. As far as after market stuff. As long as i can find a holster the works properly then im happy.

Great guns. The sights are neat and the low bore axis helps a lot with the recoil. The Steyr S40 I shot recently was one of the softest shooting 40s I ever shot, much softer than a Glock 22 or 23.

I had M series 9mm, it was unique, but ended up being a safe queen and occasional shooter...I got myself a Glock 19 and it eventually won out my 9mm spot in the gun safe because the Glock simply had way more accessory, modification, and support options.

Not a big glock fan myself. shot my friends glock 19 and it didn't do much for me.

I'm hoping a gun dealer pops into this thread any time now saying they can get this gun... lol

If the Glock didn't do much for you then the Steyr probably won't either. The two are very similar. The original M9 designer worked at Glock. It's essentially a Glock with reworked frame to achieve even lower bore axis.

And apparently much better trigger too. Even though glocks are perfection the steyr improves upon it. I dunno how that's possible but it is.

I actually liked the trigger on the glock, but aside from that I was not wowed by. Can't pin point what it is. just didn't feel right in my hands. Plus like CIimaX mentioned it has a better trigger and lower bore axis which is a big plus. Also i like the look of it as well.

I agree. I have the Steyr L9-A1 and the trigger isn't that different from a glock. The grip angle is slightly better and the grip feels a lot thinner (not much thinner than a glock gen 4 though).

Where the L9-A1 shines us its low bore axis. Very soft shooter. Only polymer gun that's as soft is my 2014 model CZ P-07.

Within the first week of getting her, I had to send her back for warranty repair. Read up on the problem of the Steyr reset and ejection patterns. My gun wouldn't completely reset. I had to take my trigger finger and push the trigger from behind to reset it, then reposition and pull the trigger. Steyr CS was top notch, but these problems left a bad after taste.

The PPQ has a better trigger...but (surprisingly) muzzle flip quite a bit. I agree with another poster..,reset is very short... Like double tap short. More me than the gun though. Only happens when I haven't shot her in a long time.

Steyr L99-A1 is the only gun I ever paid more than wanted to. I was in a rush to SSE at the end of 2013 thinking SSE may be outlawed.

All that said..I only CCW M&Ps and Glocks.

If I had to do it all again...I'd save more money just tricking out my M&Ps and Glocks

Forgot to mention...the Steyr L9-A1 had a nice trigger (definitive short reset) ONLY after installing "bigtaco's" firing pin spring and cup (total less than $20.00. BigTaco is well known in the Steyr community. Great guy and seller. Email you to help you...damn...he even called me to help diagnosis my problem before I sent the gun back for warranty repair. Can't say enough good things about the man.
