To all my 3rrd gen S&W brothers, what happens when we run out of parts for these fin guns? Will S&W special order the parts we need? I cant even find magazines anymore unless they are used. Does S&W expect us to trade in our all steel guns for the plastic? Will they continue to make parts for them and honor the lifetime warranty? I spoke with a S&W service tech and he said they would eventually stop making the parts but could not answer what would happen afterwards. Any thoughts or knowledge on the matter?

I bought one used. When I fired it would throw spent cases about 15 feet to the right. I replaced the recoil spring with a new one. The old one must have been a spring from a pen. Anyway the gun is about 20 years old and has no issues after the new spring. But down the road if something were to break then what? Its not like a 1911 where many companys make parts for it. So will S&W honor lifetime? Or will they give us a discount on the plastic? If I wanted the plastic I would have bought one.Comment

I own a 6906, you can order spare parts from S&W. Only thing, it might take a lifetime to get them since they only make those parts once in a blue moon. I ordered a few firing pins, extractors and a couple of the plastic parts inside the pistol. Order them now so you'll have them if your pistol busts on uComment

A guy at Iron Sights in Oceanside said he ordered some parts for their range guns.

The good part is they are built like tanks and not likely to need much more than a recoil spring. Have you tried to find the flat back grips? I have seen them go for 125.00 on Ebay. They are around 20.00 from S&W, when they have them.
Mags are tough to find. I got lucky and found plenty just a few years ago. The supply seems to have dried up now.Comment

Parts are basically gone. Smith only has enough parts on hand to satisfy warranty claims from now on, they sold the rest to Numerich in 2012.
No more barrels, grips, grip pins, side plates, guide rods, safety levers, extractors, and ejectors. This is the stuff that I have found are gone forever. SOME places may have them in stock but the supply is finite. Grab what you can now.
At the very least everyone should have a spare side plate for every 3rd gen they own.WTB: Sig P245 or P220 Compact

I have a lot of parts on back order with midway and brownells. Who knows if they will ever get them in. It might be on back order forever. Every so often ebay or gunbroker will have a parts kit where someone broke apart a gun and selling all internals. However it can go for a pretty penny seeing how many people know these parts are hard to get and many people are bidding.Comment

I think there is still a market for these well made guns. Even if they went up on MSRP to compensate for the cost of making them, people would still buy them. I don't think S&W realizes that people still love all steel guns and not the super plastic they are trying to peddle. FYI nothing against the M&P's. I would buy both.Comment

The frame on the 4506 and 4566 should be the same frame. I believe (someone with more knowledge please jump in) that the only thing different is the slide length and barrel length.Comment

I assumed so too but the part numbers are different so...
I will compare them when I receive it.Comment
