    XD's in FDE ... Teeheehee

    Hi Guys,

Just thought I'd show off some newly minted XD45's. These were duracoated in "Magpul FDE" by John Buethe. He's a Certified DuraCoat Finisher and, as you can see, does very nice work. If you've considered getting your handguns, rifles or whatever duracoated ... I highly recommend him. He's simply one of the nicest guys you'll ever come across.

This one is an XD45 - 5" Tactical. The "Magpul FDE" duracoat-color matches the Safariland holster pretty well.

This one is an XD45 - Compact. In the holster is an XD45 - Service. Per John's recommendation, we left all the smaller parts black in color. I think it sets off the FDE color nicely.

John also installed some OEM Tritium night-sights in both of the FDE handguns. I don't think the XD45-Compact with night-sights is on the approved CA handgun list, so getting them installed after the fact was a necessity
. Both sights are lined up perfectly.

For John's contact info, just click here (Lauer Custom Weaponry) and then click on the link for "Certified Finishers" on the left side of the page.

John is also an FFL. If you live in the Sacramento area, I can recommend him for your firearms and general gunsmithing needs.

Awesome Work! The guns look great. I am in thje Sac area and will be looking to have this done to my XD real soon.
Are those black mags from Springfield, or did you have them coated as well?

Good call on leaving the controls black. I think it looks better.

      Looks like good work.

The "teeheehee" should never be typed in a gun forum

The black mags in front (in the pic in my first post) are actually AICS mags (rifle mags). The mags towards the back are XD's, but they're just in a shadow; they're regular stainless. I don't think I'd want to duracoat them. It might make them stick inside the magwell.

But John did duracoat one of the extension pieces that fit onto a standard 10-round magazine (to work with the XD45 Compact). Here's a pic of the extension piece:

By the way, John can duracoat your goodies in a whole host of colors. You can see all the colors/patterns available on the Lauer website. I'm thinking of having yet another of my XD's done up in either OD or Gray.

Sorry ... I was just feeling too giddy about my new additions. I'll try to post more staid headlines in the future.

Aha! Didn't look close enough. Just saw black mags and XD's and got all happy.

I'll have to check them out.

I don't know of a specific place that has them where you can physically hold one and check out (Sportsman's Warehouse, maybe?) ..., but the guy who did my duracoating, John Buethe is also an FFL. He can get you whatever you're looking for (that'd CA-approved, of course) and for a better price overall than any retail shop will. John's contact info is on the link in my first post. Just one option.
