School me on 9mm 1911

I'm researching my next gun. I have polymer and steel framed 9mm and 45 ACP.

I am looking for a range toy that will be fun and fill that 1911 void. I really prefer the lower cost and recoil of 9mm, I don't reload, and have searched the forums reading a few threads with others asking about 9mm 1911.

Are there any drawbacks vs .45? Any feedback from owners who prefer one brand over another? My budget is 600-800

I am also toying with the idea of a GP100 or s&w 686, but really don't want to invest in another caliber

I had and just sold a Springfield Loaded 9mm 1911. It was definitely fun to shoot but I found that I preferred to shoot .45 from a 1911 and was more accurate with it too. I reload .45 though so there weren't any cost savings for me.

Drawbacks vs .45 ACP? Not sure. Maybe the mags are generally more expensive. And each hole 9mm makes is smaller than a .45 ACP's?

I have a Kimber 9mm and I like it a lot. You can probably score a used one for $800.

Why in the hell do you want to 46oz when loaded small caliber gun that holds 10 rounds? Like I said, great for a range gun.

My 1911 9mm commander chews up any ammo I feed it, less kick than my .45 1911 and its just a fun range gun. You may consider ammo cost, your caliber preference, platform design or any number of things but I think most who shoot a 1911 in 9mm enjoy the weapon. my 2 cents

I have a full size 5" and emp, fun fun!!!

With that budget, maybe you can squeeze a Springfield Range Officer 9mm.
Taurus is another option among already stated.
