I some what recently purchased a p226 and would like to take some formal training classes. I'm not new to guns I have been shooting since I can remember. But I would like to break any bad habits I may not have noticed. Can you guys help me with some suggestions on classes you have taken and why you suggest them?

Orange County handgun classes
Tags: None -
I should have said this inter first place. I would rather go to a class that isn't just firearms safety. I was looking at a class at orange county firearms training. It seems the indoor classes are geared a little more towards first time holding a gun students. Also I would like somewhere that I can move for beginner to advanced if I like the teaching.Comment

Check out Greg Block, firearms training associates, or Gebbhard Solutions.Comment

I really enjoyed Greg Block's basic and intermediate handgun classes, I just wish he offered more shoot from cover and move to cover type courses, but the basic and intermediate courses were fun. It's been a lot of years (15ish?) since I took his basic course but way back when it covered basic handgun mechanics and touched on home defense law before spending rest of the day getting comfortable with your weapon, shooting mechanics, and mastering double taps. If memory serves the intermediate course focused on draw and engage single and multiple targets with multiple reloads from multiple angles. Again it's been a lot of years so it may have changed.

My first class was with Greg Block over 20 years ago when the HBPD firing range was still open. I took several classes with Top Gun also at the HBPD firing range. Top Gun now teaches at the West End Gun Club. Greg Block teaches at Burro Canyon.

I recommend black center tactical. http://www.blackcentertactical.com/index.php/training/
They are located in Chino and the last couple of classes has been at Raahauges shooting range.
Their handgun 1 class is more of an itermediate class rather than a complete novice class like it describes. When I took it we went over the basics such as saftey and how to fire a pistol really quick then went right into more itermediate stuff like reloading, malfunctions, and shooting from different positions.Comment

I second Black Center Tactical. Good class and good price. Get a good holster, mag pouches and electronic ear pro.Comment

I would reccommend;
Firearms Training Associates (FTA) for classes geared towards a "civilian mindset". I have known Bill Murphy for almost 20 years. His background is as a Huntington Beach LEO / SWAT member. He also was an adjunct instructor at Gunsite back when Col. Jeff Cooper rand the operation. FTA runs most of its classes at Raauhages in Norco.
Concealed, ccw, concealed carry, firearms, pistol, shotgun, carbine, rifle, training, shooting, guns, handgun, gun, gun training, firearms training, pistol training,
Tactical Firearms Training Team (TFTT) for classes with a more hard core military/LEO mindset. A review of the instructors resume's on their website speaks for itself. ( http://www.tftt.com/TFTT_Instructors.htm ) TFTT runs its So Cal classes out at Burro Canyon.
Direct Action Group provides the highest level of cutting edge instruction in the most up to date and progressive firearms skills and tactics for military, law enforcement and private sector personnel. Our programs set industry standards for realism, safety, skill progression and unit cohesion. Whether you are a new officer on the job, seasoned warfighter or civilian shooter, these programs will enhance your existing skill set.
Note; always beware of weapons training schools that neglect to list the credentials of their instructors and IMHO, those schools whose instructors are/were NOT military/LEO professionals UNLESS your goal is to attend a school geared towards competition and then one would look to the instructors competition/ match record.Last edited by Ronin2; 05-02-2014, 1:21 PM.Comment
