    Single Shot Exemption Question

So I plan on building an AR pistol pretty soon, but before I do I would like to get a grasp on how the SSE thing works. Namely, do I need to go through the SSE process if I'm building an AR pistol from the ground up? If so, how would I/ what is the best way to go about doing this? Thanks for the help.

If I use an 80% do I need to go through the SSE process?

Technically per law you need to insert a 0 Round Sled into the BB %80 lower first. Than you can remove the sled for a 10 round magazine.

So would a lower receiver magwell vice work as a 0 round sled?

FAIL. Here are a few other ways:

One could PPT a virgin lower registered as a handgun in CA.

One could purchase a complete handgun and then strip it down and rebuild it.

One could start with a 60%, 40%, 20% or just a hunk of material (0%).

One could make a receiver from sheet metal. Yes, it has been done.

One could carve a receiver out of wood. Again, it has already been done.

One could use a 3D printer to print a receiver from nothing. Yep, has been done.

One could make a receiver out of pancakes. AFAIK, it hasn't been done yet but, I keep threatening to do it.

Now, there are possibly other ways but, I'm not going to get into them right now.

You don't have to go through any "process" as far as i know of. there's no ffl, no registration, no paper work

A lot of people take a old GI magazine and block/rivet it. Some cal guns members take pictures of ARpistol builds in 0 round sled configuration for legal purposes. Its up to you what you want to use to be complaint for your SSE build.

The process I was referring to was making it an SSE gun, but as I have found out, that is necessary.

So would a block of wood, for instance, work?

Uh, it is ILLEGAL to manufacture an "unsafe handgun" in CA. So, yea, he does have to go through the SSE process to be legal. Of course, no documentation or proof is required but, that doesn't mean it's legal to not do it.

I'm half way serious about doing it. I'm just not sure if I want to mix a bonding agent in with the pancakes or try making Ellie May Clampett type pancakes.

Yes, anything that blocks the magwell would work.

What I meant was you don't need an ffl type process. I was unaware of the 0 round sled though
