I think it's like having snap caps. Since revolvers have to be decocked manually, in the event your thumb slips, or you dry fire, it prevents any possible damage.

I think it used to prevents cylinder movement and damage during shipment

I believe it is an "unloaded" indicator, like the "chamber flag" shipped in long arms from CMP.

Maybe they serve the same purpose as chamber flags. But used when the revolver is stored, since the cylinder is usually closed.

It's like a chamber flag to show it is unloaded.

Like others said, its a chamber flag. It won't fit in there if the gun is loaded. It can also be used as a snap cap but its not really meant for that.

Like the other say, it is a chamber flag. All Ruger revolvers ship with them in.

                      Chamber Flag, got it.

Now I'm thinking it isn't a very good Chamber Flag, since holes could be cut and rounds hidden.

It should be a star, so you can see yellow plastic, but also see empty space.

To my knowledge Ruger is the only company using these. They are indeed intended as a visual reference that the chambers are empty since the cylinder won't close if the disc is put over a loaded chamber and even if the cylinder somehow was closed the disc would prevent the firing pin from striking the primer.

yeah bought a Ruger LCR and came w one. I didn't really think twice about it and tossed it in the trash. even if i saw that yellow circle in the cylinder, w my OCD tendencies i'd always still check to make sure by opening cylinder. That being said may be should have kept it for dry firing? I dry fire mine without it.

I got one of those plastic bits with the Taurus revolver I bought. I lost the thing a few months later.
