WTK colt combat comander series 70 value

it has been reblued and some parts changed out(sights, grip safety, etc).

it looks to be in nice shape maybe 85% or so.

what price ballpark is fair for this pistol?

Photos would help a bit but I know that once these are modified it usually detracts from any collector value they have. In this state a pre 80 series Combat Commander in NIB condition will fetch a fairly high sum as they are certainly not on the list and you do not see these offered for sale in perfect condition very often. I know that I was working for one of the LA area shops known for 1911 work around 2000 and we had a few brand new still in factory wrap 1911 series 70 pistols and were offering them at $1000. We did not sell many then and that was in the days leading up to the BS list, but I think most that want these would pay that price now without too much hesitation. If you check Gunbroker there are usually some that might be similar to yours offered for sale, that is one way to go about determining an estimated value. The most important thing to consider is that in the 70's and 80's there was an enormous amount of "customizing" done to these pistols that would not appeal to many looking for a Commander today. I am not an advocate of the theory that you must leave these completely in stock condition to have something of value but I have seen quite a few 1911s that have been customized to death-so to speak. That is my .02c

Ballpark without seeing it and based on what you said, I think around $700 tops.

I personally would be hard pressed to pay $500 for it but thats just me. IIRC a rebluing unless a master job reduces the value quite a bit.

I passed a somewhat dinged up with a very lightly scrached on SSN # nickel example at $500 this year, I kind of wish I could have afforded it though.

You're pretty out of touch with Colt prices - and 1911 prices in general - if you're passing on a $500 series 70 in good, functioning condition.

I would say $600 wouldn't be out of line, might even be 700 depending on the "extras" and if the added parts/sights actually add function value. However, if someone really jacked up the frame or slide, value drops - as these guns always have value in nearly any condition as "base" guns.

I'm a cheap bastard and own too many guns already As for custom parts and additions, in my experience they add little unless done by a known name gunsmith. In adding custom work on guns I've noticed when reselling there is usually a loss.

Very hard to say without detailed pics. changes to it could reduce its value since collectors want original untouch samples. Refinishing alone can cost a couple of hundred or more. Someone looking for a base gun maybe your best bet. The custom work will require refinishing anyway. $5-700 is probably a good ballpark unless the pictures shows a completely different animal than what I am imagining.

Take it to a local smith/reputable shops, and get opinions in person.

i won't be able to get pics. the pistol is not mine. as far as the reblue it was a cold blue job done at home not a pro refinish. not a very good job done either. the ramp job and parts install was done by kings back in the late 80s.
it is a nice pistol and i figured around $600 was fair.
                thanks for the help guys.
