RIA GI 1911 + FLGR = Uneven Barrel?

I just installed a Springfield Armory full-length guide rod in my Rock Island Armory 1911. I thought that the FLGR and the barrel was supposed to be the same size but the FLGR is a bit longer.

Any ideas? I am looking to buy a stainless steel barrel. Is there anything I should look for in particular so that the FLGR and the barrel are the same size?

    Thanks.

That's normal. The barrel is at the linked down position and it is pulled down/back to allow the upper lugs to clear each other. It also allows proper feeding of the next round. When the barrel is at the firing position with the slide completely forward you'll notice the barrel sticking out a little further than the FLRG.

On my ria 1911 9mm tactical that came with a full length guide rod, they are the same length.

I noticed that when I tried fitting it in the first time around.

However, like someoneeasy stated, in other guns they are even, like in this image:

Here's my 70 series colt with a Wilson flgr

Here's my RIA tac II with flgr.

          Seems like yours is normal.

Shoot it. Have fun. Get Wilson recoil buffer pads. Very helpful.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

            Thx rm1911.

I guess each gun manufacturer perhaps makes the rod specific to their guns.

I will buy some pads. Thx for recommendation.

Does the GR stick out when in battery? Have you shot it yet?

I have a RIA Tactical and it looks like the others posted above.

It's a SA 2 piece that you have to use Allen wrench to break down right? If so then it's normal.

I wouldn't recommend buffers on the guide rod. I find it causes more issues. If you have the right spring weights for the recoil spring and main spring for the type of ammo you are shooting - there is no need for those plastic recoil buffers. The plastic buffer could break apart in the gun causing a jam when you need the gun the most. That's just my opinion.

I found one in an old Colt I PPT'd and it wouldn't allow me to sling shot the slide and in some cases it didn't lock the slide back on the last round. After removing it, the 1911 functioned like a normal 1911 again.

                    Yup. 2 piece.

Haven't shot it out yet. Sticks out to the same length if I put it in without the bushing/compensator installed. Only is uneven when cocked (similar to what JTROKS stated).
