    My new gp100

Well here is my new stainless fixed sight gp100 took it out to the range today and it shoots great 8 inch groups with me shooting it better with someone that has revolver experience like my wife . the only problem is it shoots about 1 foot low at 15 yards and 25 yards about the same . sense its fixed sights the only way i know to fix it is to file down the front sight . anyone else have any ideas on a solution ? i did only shoot remington umc 125 gr 357's and some 38's in it .

someone at the range said it might be the rem umc 357's are light loads and it may have been factory sights to use hotter ammo with higher velocity could this be true ?. He recommended fiocchi and wolf gold for hotter loads with higher velocity and also said to try winchester 357 with 110gr hp maybe a lighter bullet would help.

so before filing the sight i will try other brands of 357 in it can anyone suggest something thats loaded a little hotter than the umc ? I do not have any reloading stuff for 357 yet but i will get some so ill have to stick with factory ?

anyway here are the pictures of the new beauty

Do you use a 6 O'clock hold, or do you cover the target?

If it's going to be a defensive gun, find a load that's accurate and that you're confident with, and file the front sight down to meet your point of aim.

If it's a range only plinker, fit the sights to the POA of the loads you will be using, whether it's the Rem UMC or whatever.

Ideally you should find a plinking load and a defensive load that hit the same POA and fix the sights there.

Not sure if you mean to say that you are shooting 8 inch groups. At what distance?
Maybe the first order of business is to get the group size down by whatever mean necessary.

my 8 inch groups weer at 15 yards my wife and father in law both shot it and got much better groups down 3 or 4 inch and under they are more experienced pistol shooters but it was still low all th e 38's and 357 pretty much hit the same point of aim .

I was shooting covering the target filing it down will be the last thing i do ill try just about anything else before i do that . ITs going to be a plinking and the range / HD gun btw

            Nice GP100.

            READ THE MANUAL.

You are supposed to use a 6 o clock sighting which means you line up the sights and put them right under target.

Sounds like all you need is to shoot it more and get use to the trigger. That is were the improvement will come from. Better trigger control means smaller groups, get snap caps and dry fire it.

Great gun! Did you have a choice between the black grip you have and the wood grip? I think yours looks sweeet but I would like the wood grips on mine. Do they even still offer the wood grip? Or could you just swap them out?

Thanks for the details, nlpro. The gun should be capable of 1.5 - 2 inch groups at 15 yrds or better. Most of us with good training will end up shooting 3 inch groups at 15 yrds due to sloppiness in techniques, bad eye sight, wrong time of the week/month, etc. Guys are supposed to think about sex once every 7-8 seconds. It takes me more than 8 seconds to empty a load (from a revolver). So I can scientifically blame the occasional flying on distractions

I would suggest first get to the point where you can shoot 2 inch groups at 15 yards. The group doesn't have to be your point of aim (i.e. it can be 10 inches low and to the right, as long as it's consistently there). You will have a much better measure of how far off the sights are, and modifying the sights at this point makes a lot more sense.

i may start shooting it 6 o clock position and but that would only make it 1 foot and 4 inchs low instead of one foot the way im used to aiming lol .

SanSacto it had the wood grips on it but the shop i got it from the owner liek the wood grips and wanted them for his gun and i liked th eblack so we swaped them lol.

I will definantly be shooting more before i make any modifications to the gun i know im not that good with a revolver i am very used to my 1911. but i do love the gp100 sofar its fun and i like the solid feel

I would practice dry-firing it a bunch. Also practice trigger/gun control, keep it straight and steady. At 10-15 yds 2-3" groups are easy in SA with my 2 1/4" SP101.

First thing is you need practice , you already knew that though . A heavy bullet will bring the groups up some , so will a lower velocity. high velocity round will print lower than low velocity load useing the same weight bullet do to the fact that the bullet stays in the barrel longer during recoil .

I myself suggest you practice with the gun until you are satisfied with your ability shoot it well . If you are useing factory ammo then pick few loads suitable for the main task for the revolver and find witch one shoots the best and adjust the sights to that load .

You will find that sometimes different loads with different bullet weights and velocitys will actually print to the same point of impact .

I'd shoot a variety of ammo off a rest, just to be sure. I had to file down the front sight on my Ruger Security Six snubby to get it on target at 10 yards, but I put plenty of rounds through it before I did to make sure it wasn't just me...

Before you permenantly alter your gun, you need to be certain that you are not anticipating the recoil and pushing the muzzle down. You should mix a couple of snapcaps with live rounds. When you pull the trigger on the snapcap, there should be no muzzle movement. If the muzzle drops, you are anticipating. If you are anticipating, you should start by shooting .38 until you can maintain accuracy before shooting .357.

Just my .02. I would hate to see someone permenantly alter thier gun unnecessarily.

Learn to shoot YOUR gun before you start hacking on it

There may come a point where that is the correct thing to do, but doing it before you get a real feel for it will lead to un-fixing your fix.
