what's wrong with the half rail version? i like it a lot.

I personally think the half-rail TRP Operator looks like an abortion.

Other half-rail guns don't bother me as much.......I guess its because the full-rail looks so gorgeous and then they went & screwed it up.

In any case, I don't care for it at all.

There are many people -- myself included, (and I own two Operators and two TRPs) who believe that the Operator seems as if it receives more attention from Springfield - the Operators just seem even nicer than the standard TRP.

There's a guy on 1911Forums (goes by something like "2011Tuner"--talks like he's a custom pistolsmith) that insists that the TRP Operator is built to the Pro's accuracy standard (1.5" @ 25 yds.). In his opinion, the Pro was overpriced, while the TRP Operator, with a new fire control group, was a better overall value.

All I know is, my full-length TRP Operator is a freakin' tackdriver!

ETA: Found a quote of his from 1911Forum ("2011BDLR"):

All TRP’s are simi -customs major parts are numbered and hand fitted prior to coating. That is why the product codes are PC = Custom shop and the serial prefixes are NM= National Match(over size rail specs for hand fitting). The TRP Operators are done in batches of 50 at a time. I have been told by a reliable source at SA “The TRP Operator was priced wrong at its introduction and it was supposed to be closer in price to the Pro Mod than the TRP, it meets or exceeds the Pro Mod accuracy standards” I bet 013 is the last 3 of your serial # on the pistol, right?

i;ve had the pleasure to own both verions of the full rail and 1/2 rail TRP operators. In my opinion they were fine 1911's but the one thing that bothered me about them was that taking them down was a pain. I am firm believer in using no tools to take down a 1911 for field stripping and cleaning. because of the bull barrel one needs small pin to take down the gun.

i got rid of the operators for my wilson combat CQB with rail. that one uses a standard GI barrel as well as a GI recoil plug so i can take down the gun by hand with no probs. to each their own... im sure you will be happy with the TRP operator it is a fine choice. but i would also look into the warrior also
