M&P Shield Slide Stop Question- Problem Fixed.

Mine did the same thing. I took it to the range and put about 40 rounds through it and it got better. The other post that mentions pulling the slide back a little further after it feels like it's all the way back is correct. When you field strip and clean it, make sure the recoil spring is perfectly centered when you put it back together or the slide won't go all the way back.

It will definitely get better though.

Yep. Pull it back further. If an empty mag is in there, it'll catch on it's own, so just rack that sucker like you mean it.

I picked up my 9mm today. already cleaned and saw what you are talking about. I don't think you are pushing the slide back far enough. I attached a pic. it will lock back without the mag.
the notch in the slide is not suppose to line up with the lever. the notch goes past the lever.

Before I saw your post, I thought I'd give it another try. Man that spring is stout. Like you said I wasn't pushing the slide to the rear far enough.

If you look in the gap between slide and frame and push up on the slide lever, you can see that the part you push up on is NOT the part that engages the notch in the slide. You see farther back there is a tab that moves up when you push up on the visible part of the slide lock lever. Pull the slide back even more, beyond where you'd think it should be and it will lock back. Once you see the tab, you'll always be able to lock it back.

It's a trick because most other guns, the visible part that you can push with your finger is the part that locks into the notch in the slide, but on the Shield it is not ... it's farther back. Once you see it, you will never have the problem again.

yeah its def tight...prob one of the reasons it shoots all types of ammo well.
