Glock Sight Install / San Diego

Are any special tools required to install the rear sight? Is it best to let a Glock armorer install?

If so, I am in the North County area - any recommendations?

    Thanks

I have pulled off sights on +8-10 pistols. The Glock was the easist - S&W the hardest - I finally just invested in a sight puller off ebay years back. An armorer or smith will charge 30-50$ so I paid for it on my first use in money saved.

All in all removing is generally the easier part, pushing them back on can be brutal & time consuming to setup & go slow.

I've never done my own. It's cheap enough to take them to either Glockstore on Murphy Canyon Rd, or Parallax Tactical on Miramar Rd.

DAS in Solana Beach has installed all the night sights on my Glocks.

Glockstore did 2 sight sets for me for free. And I didn't even buy the sights from them. Win.

I was at a GSSF match, chatting to the armorer. I asked him "how hard is it to change the sights on a Glock?" He said, let me show you. He took my friend's G27, unscrewed the front with the glock took (it's a nut driver), screwed in a new one. Then took a plastic hammer, knocked off the rear sight, put a new rear sight in the slot and knocked it into place with the hammer. 30 seconds. It was more-or-less centered, but it was installed. He didn't even use a vice.

Best part of it was my buddy got a free replacement of his plastic Glock sights for a set of metal Glock sights.

I replaced my sights with Warren Tactical sights. Rear sight, I used a wood working vise to hold my slide and I used a dowel and hammer to knock out and replace the rear sight. Dave Dawson has a short video on how to do it. I bought a glock sight tool from Amazon, basically a nut driver for $10 for the front sight.

Remember to dial 1 before 911.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

What I normally do is make several pencil lines - stands out on metal of gun, easy to remove when done - of the exact placement of the old sites on the frame and then when I push the new sites in ether line it up with those (if base of site is same dimensions) or center it within those. Works like a charm.

Most, but not all of course like some 1911's, pistol sights don't have windage and elevation screws - they are fixed - so there is only so much sighting in you can do. The key is to just get them centered up.

+2, of course I work about a mile away from it so it's an easy drop by. They have done 2 sets of sights and a trigger for me.
