putting an RMR type optic on an xd. Opinions?

So I have an xd tactical (5 in) and after shooting quite a few times,
I have given some serious thought to an RMR type of optic on the slide.
I have seen the optics that mount to a device that mounts to the rail and I don't like that idea.
Something like this but without all the adaptors.

What are some of your opinions?

Tons of people do it. Major advantages in a lot of ways. Many of the top tactical instructors are all-in on optics for their carry guns.

You'll have the slide milled by a smith who is experienced in such things, and it'll mount right in. You can opt for co-witness with iron sights if you want. Scott at Springer Precision, Rich and Canyon Creek, L&M Precision, etc. These guys work on XD / XDms all day, and have milled hundreds of slides for optics. There are many other good smiths, I'm sure.

It's been done on 4" and 5" and 5.25 a zillion times. Depends on you.

On a carry weapon? is it more open carry? It changes the profile and adds additional snag points.
I support the NRA, if you are not in, you can't win.
