Sig Sauer P226 Elite SAO - Reviews?

I have had my eye on Sig's P226 platform as my first Sig Sauer purchase. I am very close to pulling the trigger on a P226 Elite SAO but would like to hear some reviews from Calgunners with first hand experience shooting the SAO.

The DA/SA P226 is far more prevalent and so I wonder why the SAO is not as popular. Although I do see a DA/SA P226 in my future, I gravitate towards the SAO because it is in line with my strike-fired M&P and DAO/LEM H&K.

Anyone have bad things to say about the SAO? Good things?

I have a 226 SAO with the stainless steel frame in 9mm, it is more like the X-Five than the standard P226.

It is very well balanced, easy to stay on target even under rapid fire conditions.

The only down side is a new set of controls to learn and grips are not interchangeable with standard P226.

Great to hear! Appreciate the response. Does Sig not make the stainless steel frame version anymore? It's not on their website.

I should have clarified that it is German stainless steel frame in nitron finish.

Nice, even better that the frame is stainless steel. I only like Sigs with beavertails.

Nice, wish the one I'm buying was stainless! How much do they go for?

This was some limited run version that was done for TX DPS, it ended up in the Sig custom shop, came with a crowned target barrel and trigger. Guess it was part of an order that didn't get filled, that was the story the original owner gave me.

                I paid $1400

I've got the regular P226 Elite SAO with the aluminum frame. The trigger on the SAO is nice with a clean break around 5lbs. The reset is pretty good too. The thumb safety has a nice positive click with the right amount of resistance. But it's just such a big gun compared to my M&P. It's got a wide grip that I'm kind of struggling with.

Thanks for the post! Which backstrap do you use on your M&P?

I use medium on my M&P as well. Have you tried g10 grips?

Just sent the payment for my SAO, thanks for all the responses.

Never shot an X-Five so I cannot really speak to that.

This trigger is very crisp, nice short reset, break is very smooth.

I don't have a P226 Elite SAO, but I do have a P220 Carry Elite SAO that I bought used with the Gray Guns Trigger work done. It shoots like a dream, breaks clean. It makes my P226 with SRT feel horrible. I'd highly recommend the SAO. I had the P220 SAO standard previously too. Love them. My P220 Carry Elite SAO is on my CCW. I'm not sure why the Sig SAO's are not popular on CGN at all.

Is there a significant difference between the SAO break on that Elite SAO and the SA break on a standard sig?
