New Shield 9mm failure to feed

I picked up my new shield about 2 weeks ago, took it straight to the range and ran 100 rounds of WWB through it. No hiccups. Today, I took it back out and put 100 rounds of Federal Champion, again, no hiccups. Then I loaded up some hollowpoints, and on the 13th round, it didn't go fully into battery. Tap/ rack/ bang, and the rest fired just fine. When I picked up the unfired round, it looked like this


Not too sure what it caught on, I didn't take the time to examine it, like I said, tap/rack/ bang. Anyone know what might have caused it?

Check to see if you have a bur on the throat of the feed ramp.

Big question is what do the other cases look like? Similar 'cut'?

Is your Shield the CA or non CA model? First I would check the other brass if you have access to it. If the other brass is damaged the gun definitely has an issue. If not it could have just been a bad case. If you have the non CA model I would check the barrel for a bur. If you have the CA model I would check the barrel, and the LCI and see if anything hung up there.

Is that Speer 147 grain? I've seen some guns that wouldn't tolerate the 147 grain hollow points well, but that is what mine is loaded with and I didn't have any issues in testing.

Looks like a bad case to me. That dent took some force and came from the side. The split probably came along with whatever dented it, or when the bullet was seated. Notice there's no damage to the bullet or any other scratches? If it was something in the barrel, it would have taken more force than the recoil spring has to cut through that much brass.

This is the off roster version, and it is Speer 124 +P

The barrel looks fine (crappy cell phone pic)

I didn't notice any other marks on any of the spent cases, all of the rest fed and fired just fine.

I'd contact Speer and let them know about this. If that was the round in the pipe when someone had to use it to defend their life, It'd make for a sad news story in the morning....

Did you inspect the ammo before inserting into the magazine?
If not then I would guess the case came that way from the factory. Not unheard of for it to happen. If it was inspected and clean prior to chambering then its just plain strange. Never seen a gun that did that to a round during feeding.

If it happened in the gun I would suspect a burr on the magazine feed lips. If that was the case I would also expect to see marks on all the cases that came out of the magazine.

If all other rounds fired fine. I would say its ammo related and not the firearm.

Bummer if its the shield. Like Stevie said, hopefully it's just the ammo

Check the rails on the magazine.

I could be wrong but it probably came out of the box like that, best to check the other brass and probably call speer

maybe someone have same problem..waiting for more explanation of this forum
