    Ferangible rounds

I just bought 40 rounds of .45ACP frangible ammo. Any thoughts on their use for HD or other purposes? I had heard that their use in HD is frowned upon. Thanks in advance.

Grab a couple of different boxes of quality JHP and head to the range. Find out which round feeds best and your gun likes. Load up!

I'm not a fan of frangible, had feeding issues on several guns. Had a buddy with an indoor home range and that's what he used (understandable) but I won't touch it again.

Frangible is good for shoot houses or shooting steel at closer ranges. Other than that, it has some feed issues (some brands are better than others) and it's not very good for defensive use.

I understood them to be similar to a traditional hollow point, and being that they fragment, they wouldn't carry through walls in a home. No? They were more pricy than other hollow points, so I don't see myself buying bthem again but I am trying to find the best use for them.

They're really only suited for areas where overpenetration can cause a catastrophe. They're suited for Air Marshalls inside planes, or shoot houses for practice, or shooting steel up close.

Other than that, keep them out of your gun. Frangible ammunition does not have the mass required to punch through clothes, skin, muscle, bone, and then strike vital organs. The best hollowpoint ammunition expands, stays in one piece, and does not overpenetrate anyways. Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, Hornady FTX and XTP are some good loads for this.

The only frangible I ever use is rifle caliber stuff so I can shoot rifles on the local pistol only indoor range, and that's pretty rarely.

Really good to know. Too bad I already bought them. I guess it will be some expensive target practice at the range. Thanks for the info.
