SW 460- First Shots
Well........Wow! 8 3/8 barrel with 200 gr.Hornady Custom. May take a while to shoot this thing any where near descent. Shot 15 rounds....that's enough to make your hand a little soar, but not too bad. Tried some .45 Colt......boring after lighting off the 460 rounds. Suggest wearing foam plugs plus ear muffs if your at a range with close walls and a cover. What a horrendous muzzle blast from 2,300 fps.

If you hand load, the 460 is one of our most versatile cartridges. From squirrel and rabbit hunting up to Grizzly. I consolidated a few handguns into just this one for hunting. Sold all but one of my 44's.

Squirrels with a 460? Are you shooting aluminum cased foam rounds downloaded to 10% case capacity? Even if you are just shooting .45 colt, it is still like hitting someone with a 20 lb. kettlebell going freeway speeds, not pretty.
Or are you just turning them into little red clouds of squirrel chunks with full loads? Sure, at 2000+ FPS you are shooting nice and flat, but there are a lot cheaper ways to do that.Originally posted by kcbrownI'm most famous for my positive mental attitude.

Thanks for the info. I completely forgot about the variable rifleing. The recoil is something I will have to master. I'll just have to shoot it more and toughen up!This year will go down in history.... Don't want to offend anybodyComment

A light 45cal bullet traveling at around 750fps can be used to harvest rabbit without much meat damage. I would load 'em as slow as safety would allow. Just punch a nice clean hole right through.
