    I thought I drank the 40cal Koolaid!

I went to buy an XD45 , but looked at the SA milspec 1911.I had never shot either but held them both. The 1911 just felt right, so I went home with a SA 1911. All my buddies were buying 40cal pistols, I just didn't see the reason. Here we are a year later got a great deal on a XDM40 4.5. I bought it and took it out. It is a great gun but the 1911 is just so much more gun to me. Don't get me wrong the XDM is outstanding just didn't have the OH my God feeling that I had the first time the 1911 went bang.I know I'm not the only one!

I think you may be mixing up gun type and caliber...

I get where you are coming from. A bunch of friends jumped on the 40cal band wagon. The glock and XD 40cals were where it was at. " Why would you want to shoot such an old platform. " Thats where I was coming from.

It's simply not equal to compare a 1911 to any gun, regardless of caliber.
Try a 1911 cambered in .40/10mm, and report back =)

Comparing a XD45 to the 1911-45 will net result to the same thing .

Yeah .40's and .45's react way different then each other... In any platform.
They each have their own uses.

I guess I could have said it different. The 1911 is such a great platform, that I prefer it to some of the gee-whiz guns of today. Sorry guess I won't drink and post! LOL What is the consensus of the CZ75 in 9mm to a 1911 style, good bad or indifferent?

I also think it is very difficult to compare to totally different things.

Some people don't differentiate different platforms to calibers. Most people think a 9mm is a 9mm.

If you judge your shooting experience by the pound?

                      ...More power too ya.

I like the .45 in the G36, and the .40 in the G23.

I also judge my shooting experience by the pound.

If I am going to shoot a larger caliber handgun, I will always opt for the 45. Why bother with a 40? And yes I prefer the 1911 as well.

Will never understand why people compare "a 1911" to any specific make/model of any type of gun. There are hundreds of 1911 style pistols. I'm sure some are wonderful and some are crap. Exactly like there are some wonderful polymer pistols and some are crap.

If you want to compare 'a 1911' to 'a revolver' or 'a striker fired polymer pistol' fine. Then you're comparing general platforms. But to lump all 1911s into some magical thing is just silly.

I have a 1911 (STI Ranger II) chambered in .40 that is a phenomenal gun. It's my preference to shoot Glocks; usually also chambered in .40 cal.

I'm not sure why panties get bunched when talking about the round or the platform. Enjoy your new gun!
