HSC expiring

My HSC expires soon. Does HSC need to be current when I pick up a pistol? Or just current on the day transaction takes place?

Just when you pay for it. They should've had a copy already. Once you pay it is good to go, well in 10 days.

Calguns said ok but some LGS may not except it. Just a guess since I was getting many different rules from store to store. Should you renew it anyway?

It couldnt hurt to renew it. Chances are you will be buying another handgun in the next 5 years. Besides it only takes a few minutes.

You can try to pick up without. If they say you need it, just take and pass the test and take your gun home.

You shouldnt need proof of your hsc when u pick up. Your good to go.

I don't believe this is correct. You will need to take the test to get a renewed HSC. We just went through this process a couple months ago.

Why wouldn't you just renew it before it expires?

Because next year (01-01-2015), the Firearm Safety Certificate (FSC) is required for handguns and long guns.

Unexpired HSC will still be valid for handguns only.

So, if your HSC expire this year and you do not plan on obtaining a handgun this year, why renew your HSC when you will need a FSC next year.

CA DOJ has not made it available.

HSC expiring

I cut my HSC to stop my addiction. It was unsuccessful and so I got a HSC replacement. I paid $15 for a replacement without taking the test. I guess a replacement is different than a renewal.
