I'm new to the gun world. I just purchased new 9mm magazines for my Sig 2022. They are "factory new" in a sealed package and oily. Why are they so oily? Do I need to wipe off the oil and take the mag apart and ensure no oil within the magazines before I load with ammo? Any tips on mag maintenance? I heard oil is not good for ammo.

Already said, but yes, clean it and don't add additional oil...unless you plan to store them (empty), then don't clean them.Sorry, not sorry.

As others have said, the oil coating is to protect the product while in transit from factory to distributor and retailers. It's to ensure the products can be displayed to consumers in best shape possible. Think of it of it like preservatives they add in processed foods you see at the grocery store (lunch meats etc).I'm new to the gun world. I just purchased new 9mm magazines for my Sig 2022. You don't need to oil magazines. They should insert and drop free easily. If not, then either the magwell, magazine or mag release is out of spec and you should contact manufacturer for warranty repairs.Comment
