    Took some freinds shooting...

After a few false starts I finally got my friend and his wife to the pistol range yesterday.
He is from New York and had only fired a pistol once, She is a New Jersey girl who had never touched a real gun before. I had them come to my house for a 1 hour introduction to how a gun works, difference in cartridges, revolver vs. semi and of course safety. At first my friends wife acted like a gun would jump up and bite her but both were good students and caught on well.
Once at the range we started with my Buckmark .22 and both did surprisingly well, not just keeping all shots on the paper at 15 yards but keeping reasonably good grouping. It was really fun to see her do a little dance when she shot a few bullseyes. She's a competitive person and was happy to be shooting well. Next we went to the Glock 17. Both shot well again, we went through about 150 rounds then we went to my Glock 22, they could both tell a slight difference in recoil but both of them shot the .40 as well as the 9mm. and neither of them had a preference for one or the other.
Then we brought out my 4" 629, she started with .44 specials and really liked it. He shot specials and then I let him shoot a cylinder of .44 mag just so he could say that he had done it.
I had as much fun as they did. My friends wife who was really anti gun but open minded now has a better understanding as well as appreciation for guns, both want to go shooting again. They are looking at property in the country so I see a purchase in their future.

Thats really great that you did that, and the fact that they were open minded about 'taking a shot' at it!

      Well done indeed..

Great job OP! I like your approach to teaching too.

Isn't it amazing how a couple hours of personal, heart felt instruction can negate (or at least offset) years of blind dogma?

Cheers to you and keep at it.

Again great job. Starting them with light recoiling pistols always smart. Making it fun rather than too challenging even more important. I personally get more fun introducing new shooters and watching them, figuratively and literally, "do a little dance" myself.

That's the way to do it! Hats are off to you sir!

Laws against murder and attempted murder should have been the only gun control laws ever needed in America...

Honestly, If we all take out someone who does not had experience shooting to the range I believe we can change their views of 90% of them.
